Why cant opel build cars like this again

Ok it may be based on a cav ascona but it looks pretty damn cool in a 70's stylee

used to see loads of these in Germany, very, very nice styling......like a mini Vette, needs lowering IMO though

The Opel GT, built between 1968 - 1973, and according to Classic & Sports Car its top speed is 116mph and 0-60 takes 10.2 secs. One in average condition should be worth £2,750 which is peanuts for a car with those looks! Still no air bags or traction control so these modern sports car drivers wouldn't be able to handle it!

I've seen a few at various Opel meets, They were only available in Left hand drive.

I think they were originally a 1600, which was replaced with a 1900.

Opel made quite a few nice cars in the 70's and 80's like the Manta A series, the B series and the Monza.
Shame Vauxhall and Opel cars merged and became just Badged differently.

I remember them, very nice looking, a bit of a stunner in their day. Re the vauxhall/opel badging bit, I used to have a Cavalier Coupe that was basically a rebadged series A opel manta, a fairly quick mainstream car in its day ( a bit of a barge around the corners tho ).

The manta A series is one nice looking car IMO

My favourite Manta was the GTE around 1990:

Not many cars come close to this in terms of design purity and drop-dead looks.

Nah got to be the A series with the sharknose front end and round rear lights thing is cars likes these have gone to be replaced by 2 seater numpty mobiles with traction this safty that and airbags etc i would rather have an old manta than a new astra coupe for a start the manta is RWD no abs no airbag blah blah blah , thats why i keep looking at a TVR S all thses driver aids blunts the appeal of a sports car

the mantas are great cars .. the A series always reminds me of a dodge charger for some reson .. those rear lights maybe? I nearly bought a GT/E once, but got a 6cyl Spitfire instead (!).
Tony Abrams used to have GT gathering dust in the back of Hexham Horseless Carriages' compound .. he might take an offer if it's still there. Very pretty car .. I've seen a few with Rover V8 conversions too ... and one with a Mazda rotary in it.

Can someone give me better details. IN the eyes of Autotrader the A Series doesn't exist, so I had to guess which one it was when I was doing the quote.

Just so. I'm currently Using Endsleigh for my Insurance, but with a years no claims and a year being a good boy, my insurance is only going to drop by £35. Which is pathetic.

So I'm going to do some mooching around the car mags over the next few months to get a better deal.

As for the Manta, I was just curious, can't afford to buy one, never mind insure the damn thing. Think I will put fast cars on hold for a year or two.

I was so desperate to get rid of mine I spent about £250 getting it roadworthy for a guy who wanted it, and ended up getting rid of it for about £275!!

My 1.8s B Berlinetta was the car that got me from quirky french stuff (2cv/bx) into more performance oriented cars. Of all the cars I wish I hadn't sold it was that one I'd have back tomorrow - masses of fun.

I had a B reg Berlinetta as my first car, then I replaced it with a D reg white GT/E Coupe.

I only wish they had been built with proper steel, as once they started to rust, they went into self destruct mode, and Vauxhall had kept up a parts supply.
Voltage regulators, Brake master cylinders, front wings, and headlamps are just a few of the things you can't get for them now.

i personally have a mk 1 cavalier, which looks like a manta b with 4 doors... why they based the opel mantas looks on the cavalier and not the ascona i don't know...
