997 GT3 without buckets - heinous or not?

I am considering a 997 GT3. But am a little dismayed that you have to fork out an extra £3000 for the bucket seats. I currently have Sports seats in my Boxster, these are standard fit in the GT3.
Would I have the only GT3 in the world without buckets if I stuck with the normal seats? Or by not having buckets am I going against what the whole GT3 thing is about?

Bucket seats were standard if you purchased the 'clubsport' package - ie rollcage etc. The bucket seats are actually totally unadjustable and very small so I agree with the above post, most GT3's do not have bucket seats - and the 'comfort' package (ie sports seats and no rollcage) will not affect it's resell value. If you opt to retro fit the seats then, with respect, make sure your backside fits in them first !! :-)

I don't think thats quite correct.
The GT3 had bucket seats as standard and they were leather covered. A cost-free option was leather Sports Seats (ie non-buckets) instead, but actually relatively few GT3s have these fitted.
If the Clubsport package was ordered (again cost-free), then the same buckets were fitted, but were covered in Nomex fire-retardent fabric, rather than leather.
The same seat rules applied to GT2s as well.
I sat in the new CGT style buckets in the 997GT3 that was on the Geneva Stand and they are great seats, although they felt a little narrower than the GT3 seats. The odd thing is that Porsche are making the Clubsport package 'free' again for the 997GT3, but it cannot be ordered without the very expensive bucket seats, so it is not, in effect, 'free'.

I would have thought that most 996 GT3s out there have buckets? Or is this because I see a biased picture by doing track days?
If the buckets were free in a 997 GT3, then I would say get them. But at 3 grand, it is your call. You will not lose more than 3 grand at resale if you don't spec them, probably 1-2 grand.
There will be a wider group of buyers for the new 997 GT3 than the 996 version as it has satnav, PASM electonic suspension etc. So more road biased, so normal sports seats would be OK in many people's opinion.
The hardcore driver will get the forthcoming 997 GT3 RS which will have the wide body, probably normal suspension and propbably buckets......but at a higher price. There's a GT3 for everyone now. Very good thing IMHO.

This was my exact question before I ordered my GT3 last week. I was thinking about skipping the extra cost of the buckets for an additional reason - being able to actually use that rear space of the GT3 to bring my dog every now and then (the buckets obvioulsy don't fold to give access to the rear space).
I eventually opted for the buckets anyway and never looked back. Mostly due to significant weight saving over the standard items. Never a bad thing to shave weight from a GT3. And never mind the dog!

The carbon backed affairs are an optional item (lighter).
The sports seats (retractable) are also an option.

It comes with sports seats as standard, not buckets!
Although I think I will go for these, I intend using it every day & I think the standard seats will be more practical as well as £3k cheaper!
The buckets are fab, so have Porsche missed a trick by offering only the carbon fibre buckets at £4k on the 997 GT3 ?
Or do they have an eye on their wallet ?
997RS, is it really based on the Turbo body ?
997GT3 v 996GT3 engine --- is it really 10% more powerful ? Last I heard late GT3's were running 400bhp to a car.
