Software to edit mp3s?
Discussion
Hi Guys
I have only just got into downloading MP3s and the like from Itunes rather than getting them from 'other' sources, my question is what software would allow me to cut/ mix and edit these tracks I am running an apple G5 so mac friendly software would be gd. Also, what do you recommend for editing film from Dv video cameras?
Thanks
Simon

Depending on what editing/mixing you have in mind, QuickTime itself will let you do quite a bit, QuickTime Pro even more, and iTunes can create mixed playlists I think, but I don't use it much so not sure how much control you have. Similarly, iMovie is about as easy as it gets for editing video. Both would have come pre-installed on the G5, and a QT Pro key is available from the Apple Store online (about £20 IIRC). Also remember that tracks downloaded from the iTunes Store are DRM protected, and not normal MP3s. To make them more usable, and to play them on a MP3 player other than an iPod you'll need to burn the files to CD and then re-rip them back to iTunes as MP3s. Apple themselves recommend keeping a backup of bought music, as there is no way to redownload tunes you have already paid for.
I use 'ripeditburn' to make/edit MP3's very simple to use, does what it says and you can download a free 1 month trial version from; www.blazeaudio.com/products/ripeditburn.html
As for DV from camcorder I use Pinnacle Studio and have also used Ulead Videostudio and Adobe Premiere but I prefer Pinnacle because it's easy to use and does what I need.

Have a look at Audacity - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/downl
Is very good...
Yeah Audacity is a superb piece of software - however I really miss the option of being able to record from the "Stereo Mix" channel, which only seems available in the Windows version. Maybe I'm being stupid and just not seeing it... or maybe it really isn't available!
