PS2 Memory Manager woe

Fellows... arrggghhhh
I use a non Sony memory card, 'Memory Manager', that I bought off ebay couple of years ago. It has to boot with the mini CD it came with else the PS2 doesnt see the memory card (if that bit had been mentioned in the ad I may have thought twice...never mind).
All of a sudden my 50% completed GT4 save file doesnt work. Tried re booting it all etc etc. Loaded up Tiger Woods with its own save file - all fine. Tried copy & pasting the GT4 save to the card a 2nd time and confirm the overwrite when asked. All fine. Only thing that isnt fine is that it doesnt work any more !!!! A bugger
Any thoughts lads?
