Newbie with ECU issue

Hi All,
New to the world of Cerberas as i changed my griff500 for a 4.2 last month... All was going well until the MIL light began to flash on applying throttle! It turns out the ECU has had it..

Any suggestions as to where i get a new one without shelling out £800 odd quid??

From previous posts the most problems seemed to be resolved by resetting, apparently not in my case. i know the mechanic is Good at what he does so....

That's a shame, and incerdibly rare. I've replaced two ecus in all the years cerberas have been out .. about 11 years. Is it on full throttle or when pressing the throttle down that it happens?

I would always be incredibly wary of anyone who says that an ECU is knackered.

I had a dodgy ECU on my last 4.5, but the dealer replaced the chip and it was ok after that. Cost about £60 from memory (my memory is crap, allow for +/- £20), so either Hexham is very generous or your getting ripped off.

Yea the guy who is looking at it has verified that it is the ECU and now that ive dug deeper it turns out that the factory have refurbed this ECU before.....

Leave it to me to find the only F****d ecu in UK!

Im sending it back to B'pool they can sort it out! afterall they know it, as it spends weekends and all holidays there!

I'd be tempted to purchase a s/h good one and send them the bill. Or buy one and then sell it on when you get the original back.

Try the ECU doctor, 01752 346437, does fault finding and reconditioning with 12 month warranty, be wary of some companies on the net that claim to do reconditioning of ECU's, not wanting to mention any names but there are some cowboys out there and I found out the hard way! ECU doctor was the only one that offered a full 12 month warranty and seemed to know what he was talking about.

I've had a couple where the NVRAM was the problem, simple chip change sorts that out .. but that only really affects the ecu's ability to store and use the adaptive trim function.
If you really do need an ecu it's well worth going the s/hand route .. as we say it's incredibly rare to have a failure so a s/hand ecu will probably be ok for another 20 years!
Just make sure you get one for AJP8 not a SP6 though! .. (early Cerbera SP6 used a gold casing ECU like the AJP8 versions, but the 15degree even bank timing offset is not a software change so you *do* need an AJP8 ecu to work on your car).
