Oil Pressure problems!!

Just returned from a sunny roof off run out to Studland with the Dorset TVRCC (37 cars ), but noticed a worrying problem with the oil pressure.

Normal driving 50 lbs/in², however when the revs drop to 1000 rpm - 1700 rpm oil pressure drops to 0 lbs/in² . The cut off is quite marked 1700 = 0 1800 = 50. This has only just started happening, and previously oil pressures were rock steady 30 lbs/in² warm idle to 50 lbs/in² everywhere else.

Has anybody any ideas?

IMO what you want to do is straight away get it to a garage that can test the actual pressure for you by inserting a test thing (technical term) where the current oil pressure sensor sits in your engine. They will then be able to tell you whether or not you have low oil pressure. I did this and I had good pressure but a low reading on the guage. So, when I had the engine out to fix the gearbox I put a new sensor into the engine (dead easy) and it resolved the low readings.

Are you finally going for the monster upgrade then Graham?
Shame I missed the dawdle today, weather was perfect, dry enough for the Tivs, too cold for the numpties , got another puppy yesterday so its all hands to the pumps at home at the mo, worse than bl**dy kids .

Yes - thats the great plan, however it's not a monster upgrade - just enough to beat a V8S

Sorry you couldn't make the run out, it was a bit of fun albeit a tad slippy through the lanes where the sun hadn't melted the ice

24V or Turbo/supercharger something along those lines? or a proper sounding lump like a V8 .
I'm sure there's plenty of peeps on here would like to know what the upgrade is to be, and how long before we see/hear it on the road

Went down to Studland today to do a coast walk, not in the S3 but in the family Citroen.
Wonderful surprise, 36 TVRs in the carpark. What a sight and sound, unfortunately my wife insisted on continuing with the walk.
Every so often the rumble of an exhaust could be heard in the distance.
You'd all gone when we got back.

I bought the engine from the guy who developed it for a customer. It has done a season Hill climbing in a Scimitar, and then was replaced with of all things a V8!

Richard Smith (Peninsula) is going to do the transplant starting next week, and expects to complete it in about 10 days, so I could be ready to start destroying clutches, gearbox, drive shafts and diffs by the end of the month!
