The wife and I have been looking at Chimaera for a month or so now and today we test drove a chimaera 500. First time either of us has ever driven any TVR. Both were very impressed and although we were looking at 4.0 and 4.5 I thing we are going to purchase this 5.0 job. It was quite expensive but it was the bollocks with 19000miles ally stalks and in immaculate condition. I was under the impression that the 5.0 were a bit of an animal but it seemed very friendly to drive even with its awsome power.

Well done Shillers and wife, you will never look back, or want another marque after the TVR! I did exactly the same a few months back, when I test drove a Chim 450 for the first time.I also found it easier to drive than I initially thought, even without PAS. It is now on our driveway and still drooled over. The other half had a long drive in it today, and loved it, but she could have put her foot down a little more often than she did !!! lol

Have fun, I don't think you'll regret it, and if you have any queries, as I did, and still do, the guys on this site are excellent and always willing to help and give advice.

PS, make sure you get a at least a full years TVR warranty in with the deal, so that you're at least covered for anything major if the worst should happen, plus check the service history, and was the last service done at a specialist TVR garage!

Yeah - I test drove one in the rain & scared myself (& wife) silly - sideways up a sliproad in 3rd at 70MPH
After that, I just had to have one...

Shillers,

Is your car the Starmist Blue 500 advertised on the Fernies web site? Just wondering - were you over there having a look at the car yesterday afternoon at about 3pm in the mist? If so, we may have been there at the same time as you - did you notice a red Defender?

Hope you have a great time with your Chim. We bought ours from Fernies in the spring and haven't regretted it for a moment - it's taken us to Italy and back and has been utterly reliable so far.

Happy Tivving,
Alex.

Congrats Shillers and wife!

(they're not hard to drive ... just easy to crash ... treat with due respect, and once you've got the hang of it please explain it to me)

AlexR Yes it was us - There is a small story to your Chimaera and the purchase of ours. We had only ever looked at 4 and 4.5 and had never looked at any 5's with the intention of purchasing. Just prior to your arrival we were about to leave when your Chim pulled up in front of my Red Rover so while we were waiting for you we hung around inside and looked at the Blue Starmist (as we had already looked closely at the others). While we were waiting we were contemplating taking it for a test drive and so we did and then purchased it. We intend to go to a few meets so if I see you both the drinks are on us.

Ooh no! Massive guilt trip now. Possibly the most expensive blocking-in ever....
(It used to be easy to park up out of the way at Fernies, now their car park's full of Land Rovers.....!)

Reminds me of the day I bought my Chimaera 500. A landmark moment. Took it straight up to Bedford (then home) from A Bylths and then had to leave it there for a week as I was working (still am) in Crawley. Gutting!!

Brought my Chim in November, drove it for only 5 days before going overseas for 7 weeks. Am looking forward to another "first drive".
Chris, may see you in Glos - have to drive there for nearest Optimax.

You haven't got a dark green Chim have you? My fiancee said she has seen it several times. i have seen a Chim once as i was passing the Shell garage near Quedgeley (which I use too), and the garage next to the Audi dealers.
Have yet to see another Chim on the move though!
Went to a meet last night, which 21TVR very kindly invited me to, and it was great chatting to other TVR owners, a really nice bunch of guys, you should come to the next one Alex.

Silver 450, Forest of Dean area so use the garage next to Audi. Did try Cribbs causeway once but they had run out of Optimax!
Will try and get to a meet.

Cheers for now

Alex
