Driving to work this morning, my 964 was playing up.

As soon as I hit 4, 000 RPM the car stutters and reduces power in almost any gear. Lower the revs and its fine.

The engine does not sound like a tractor or anything.

Any ideas/thoughts would be most helpful.

Thanks guys,
Graeme.

Sounds like your DME / Fuel Pump relay has expired.

These are cheap - around £18 from Euro Car Parts - if that's the problem.

I also have this problem on my car only when left for a couple of days though, if used every day it is fine, leave it though and until i have been driving approx 20 mins any revs higher than 3500 it coughs and splutters, sounds like fuel starvation.

Car is a 91 c2 cab, I have replaced the fuel pump (not the relay yet though), the dissy belt is fine and I must stress this problem cures after 20 mins, although it has cut out on me all together on one night a few times, each time instantly restarting first time on the key.

Many 964 and 993 owners carry a spare relay anyway just in case as they are common failure points and cheap and small enough to carry in your glove box.

The later revised DME Relay will be a 993 pn, you may have the original 944 pn fitted
its a good place to start checking as its a cheap test first
