295s on mk1 GT3 wheels?

Just confirming something I suspected...

295s wont fit on mk1 wheels or will they???



they are the standard mk1
sport design wheels.

I just asked the same question recently and according to GaryB at Titanic, the rear fenders will need to be rolled. (but the 295/30-18s will fit on the Mk1 GT3 wheel)

when you say rolled, what does that entail???

Take a baseball bat and shove it in the wheelarch and roll the inside wheelarch lip back around on itself until it gives sufficient clearance for the 295 tyre. Easy really

IMHO. just stick with the 285's and buy some extra tuition. Much more productive in terms of lap times, or in my case crap times.

i was asking because jason from Protyre has some good condition part worn mich cup tyres. Reg and I wanted to try them out first before getting new sets. But sadly he's only got 295s.

BTW i got those discs ffrom ebay..

Now all I need is someone to show me how to change them??

Changing discs is a piece of pi*s. Let me know when you want to do it and I'll gladly come along and show you how. If you haven't got the tools then just bring it over to me and we can do it on my drive.

BTW what state were those second hand discs in?? They looked good in the photos.

The Michelin Cups are bloody great tyres. However, personally speaking I would be reluctant to roll my arches just to try a set out. Just buy a new set incl the 285's, I guarantee you'll be impressed, even if somewhat lighter in pocket.

I was talking to a chap at South Coast Wheels a few days ago - he told me that 295's really needed to be fitted on 10 inch rims - what are on the GT3? interested as I wanted to go for 295's on the rear of my scratch build but struggling to find a decent selection of rims wide enough.

According to JZM, they have said that 295s will fit on Mk1 GT3 wheels 10" with the normal 5mm spacers withOUT needing the rear arches to be rolled.

They did, however, say that 10" rims were narrower than ideal (but they will fit). According to the TireRack website and various tyre manufacturer websites, 295s fit between 10-11" rims, with 10.5 being the ideal...

Yeah I should have said a minimum of 10 inch. They told me to convert the tyre width into inches then subtract 1 for the perfect fit, but 1/2 either way was OK - cheers for that, suppose I might have to look at porsche offsets and see how they compare with the rest of the setup now!

Steve, thanks..the discs are on their way hopefully. Apparently no cracks.

I probably havent got the tools so I might take up your offer.
I'd appreciate you helping me..I'd probably like to change them after Spa (but Ill bring em along just incase the old ones explode)

Ill probably use the Dunlop ssrs at spa assuming weather is good. If its crap Ill take the spare set along (rossos). We really need to sort this "bloke in a van" idea with Sean. Reg is up for it too.

ok, Ive taken some photos because I looked at my wheel arches and compared them to my neighbours C4. His looked completely different ..which got me thinking..have mine been rolled already? Towards the bottom of the arch the metal is at 90 degrees to the outerskin (first pic)then as climbs, it flattens out completely (second pic) before opening up again (last pic).

Do your gt3 arches look like this???

Job of changing the discs takes about an hour per side max. I know there's ltd time but they could be changed before Spa if you wanted to, particularly if you had a garage that could be used in the evening. Just checked my front arches and they are exactly the same as yours. So, either both of our cars have been "rolled" or its just a standard fit from Porsche for the GT3. Have to confess it's somewhat strange that Reg's car is different.
