Right trying to get my mates 911 running to see if its up for a run to Goodwood on Sunday, Connected battery charger and nothing happens. Try it on the wedge and the charger starts charging straight away.
Is it possible that the battery is so dead it wont accept a charge anymore? It look fairly new, a sticker on the top has 2005 on it, and the car has been standing for 6 months (arrival of Small Chid Effect).

Lead acid batteries are damaged by being completely discharged.
When it's FUBARed it won't accept a charge.
Sometimes using a heavy duty charger (gives out higher voltage) can kick-start it into accepting a small charge which slowly grows to a normal charge level after an hour or so.
Probably best to slap a new battery in anyway. For £50 or whatever it is probably the cheapest and most effective reliability gains you can get!
Once you've got a new battery in next thing to look for is why the other one died. Is there something slowly discharging the battery? Alarm/radio/interior light...
Alternatively you could suggest he torches it, claims on the insurance and buys a BBW
