No doubt some idiot in the Department of Transport will use this as an excuse to confiscate all male-owned driving licences. Why do we have to be driven by statistics all the time? Next they'll be saying that owners of light metallic green Nissans are most likely to have accidents whilst reverse-parking at night, or something.

This was a survey based on a very limited sample and the question used was only loosely based on the results inferrred - another case of spin over substance I'm afraid.

Worry not, good people; we'll soon all be driving our Veyrons along metal slots in the middle of the carriageways and the thought police will be controlling our retardations from Millbank...

so when is the "will of the people" going to be respected by those in charge? being a democracy *they* should do what WE want !

Incredible that in this day and age we are being told what to do. Obviously there are a few idiots around that need controlling, but not everyone is in that category.

What an excellent part of work from the ABD in debunking some of the previous anti-car stuff that we have seen.

Just in my mind a *real* shame that they spoil the article on their web site by putting after the graphs "The contrast between the trend in accidents before and after is so obvious a five year old could see it".

To partonise the reader in that way is in my mind uneccessary. I think it would lead the reader to say "what do they have to hid that they need to say that".

I also don't agree witht their straight line analysis for Fatal accidents. The fit is so bad for the "before" as to make it inconclusive - me - it looks more like the speed limits did pretty much nothing to fatal accidents.

Still - I'm encouraged by it - the graphs look good enough on their own that hopefully they will fit inot the "sound bite" mentality of the press.

to the ABD for the figures - let's hope it gets wider coverage.

All truth must be buried, especially if it goes against the PC grain.

Just remember 94.2% of politicains only pay 35% of attention when examining 10% of the Facts. These statistics are 110% reliable.

So technically speaking they will do chuff all. Unless there danglies are in a vice, or money is at stake. Maybe even both, i'm open minded.

(Please feel free to adjust the above statistics to your bias)

Another example of numpty propaganda managed to sneak it's way into my local rag last week. It contained phrases such as "motoring is morally and ethically wrong" and "this country's 25 million (?) car owners must not be appeased (!) further". It also likened car use to slave trafficing (I still can't figure out how they managed that). This was in response to an article about local speed cameras doing nothing to halt fatal accidents in the area, and yet the papers print this bullsh*t. Suggest we start a regular slot on Pistonheads.com called 'numptywatch', featuring the cream of b*ll*cks numptyism gleaned from the local (and national) press. Keep it anonymous to avoid lawsuits etc. What do we think?
