Typical OPC service....!!!

Took my 2000 C2 to my local OPC to have a 12000 mile service, told me that my RMS was leaking, my coolant header tank needed replacing, my crank case end plate needed replacing, my mass air flow sensor needed replacing and also my rear pads and disc's needed replacing!!
Told them the car was under warranty and was told the RMS and Air flow sensor was covered so I told them to leave the others and just do what the warranty covered and the service. Also told them that my RMS was only changed 7 months ago which didn't seem to bother them.
Got my car back and got my own workshop with the aid of a mechanic from the Porsche Specialist garage which is nearly next door to have a look and guess what!
The end plate is seated fine and is not leaking so doesn't need replacing, the header tank also seems fine and I can confirm I haven't lost any fluid in the last 5 months, the rear pads still have 5mm and the discs are worn but do not need replacing yet....one way of saving £2000.
They won't be seeing me again!

They seem to have the knack of making you feel like you're driving around in a heap of junk.Picked mine up from 12k OPC service on Monday.Said I needed 2 coil packs and a side light bulb (£202.11).When I said leave it and just do the service they said they'd chuck in a free brake fluid change.I know it's not bad but it's just had one.They then phoned back and said they'd do the job for £160(less fluid).More like the "Grand Bazzar".Also said my Wintrac Extreme tyres had to be changed as not N rated.Been in touch with Vredestein who hotly dispute this.Finally was told my rear wiper required replacement as was not working on test."leave that too I said".Don't know whose car they tested but wiper on mine works just fine.Got parts from Malton and fixed it myself.Took me 1.5 hours.Not impressed.
It's an absolute disgrace - it is tantamount to theft - maybe Porsche OPCs need to have a little airing on watchdog or something similar and wake up and get their house in order.
Not a day goes by without someone on some forum saying how they've been screwed....
I love the marque to death but wouldn't touch a new model or an OPC and even the PCGB seems to be in dissaray at the minute

Had the usual corroded brake disks trick payed on my dad when he had the Boxster in for a service last week. Also claimed the front tyres were illegal and both would constitute an MOT failure when they're both 2mm+. It's in for the MOT elsewhere on Saturday, if it passes then trading standards will be getting a call.
It is nothing else than attempted theft in my view.
If you were to catch your OPC going through your pocket jacket and trying to
lift a few 50£ notes from your pockets, what would you do ?
There is no difference whatsoever, except the sums are bigger than what a picpocket may
lift from you.
I had the discs and pads thing done to me as well (Total bullshit).
Someone should do the following next time they feel they are taken me for a ride:
- Ask the OPC for a summary of the jobs they claim need doing in writing.
- Take my car back from their garage without notice.
- Take it to one or several third parties to verify the status each item requiring attention.
Involve a solicitor and take them to court.
If you catch someone lifting 2,000 from your house, you would take them to court no ?

I'm new to this forum so will take my cue from others. I suppose it's unfair to slag them off without giving them a "right of reply".Trouble is unless they're named they won't know it's them. Dealt with 4 or 5 over the years and most are rubbish with IMO one very big exception (Cambridge).The service manager there is a real enthusiast and I think am right in saying has his own GT3.This attitude pervades to the others.This probably is the reason why the Indy's are better. Alot are ex OPC.

You could always hint at the general area of the country... then the people in that general area could send a personal email.

Might be OK in the Midlands where I believe there is another Porsche owner somewhere, but would cause email overload in the South-East.
the fact is, OPCs - like Porsche themselves - are in the business of making money, so that is what drives their behaviour and motivation - so no surprises there. Like any money machine they are always monitoring their actual revenue against budget so these 'service/maintanence' jobs are proposed to bump up the figures.
But let's face it, they sell fantastically engineered cars, that offer incredible driving experiences, stamped with a badge that many other manufacturers would kill for.
And in the defense of OPCs, I recently had my porker in for a job to correct a gearbox fault - it was only a 30 mins job, but OPC decided to waiver the fee, doing it FOC. And yes the car is out of warranty. So credit due.

Am I the only one that preferred an OPC to an indie?
Mine went for a service with a specialist indie, I was told everything from the RMS to the clutch needed doing in the near future. Both the clutch and RMS had been addressed not long ago. It needed some items replacing for the MOT, which were covered by the Porsche warranty.
Told the indie it was under warranty, took it to the OPC, who said they'd need to make their own inspection to verify the parts needed replacing. They addressed every issue under the warranty, and put it throught the MOT.
Next service it's going straight to them.
