Hi,
Can anyone recommend an insurer (including club schemes etc) for a young driver on a 924S?
My best quote so far is £744pa from Lancaster which is pretty good (I'm 23 and thanks to kit car insurance previously, I have no NCB ......so maybe be a good start for anyone in a similar predicament!)

Not sure how good they are for classic cars, but admiral.co.uk/elephant.co.uk seem to be consistantly cheap for younger drivers.

The best way to reduce your quote IMHO is to carefully consider what your details are....
1. Could you "keep" the car at your parents house in the country?
2. Could you reduce you mileage to sub 10k?
3. Consider adding older drivers with clean licences to your policy as named drivers....can reduce you policy by 30%!

In answer to the questions.
Yes, it is fully comp, but has mahoosive excess (£500 voluntary on top of various mandantory ones). On their website it was the same premium for my parents house in deepest Devon and where I'm staying in Chelmsford (not actually sure which one to pick - spend most of my time nominally up here, but often only in the uk 3 days a week and only up here for a temporary contract...)
Of the mainstream insurers I found Bell were the best when I looked before (I'm paying £800pa for my 1.9 Pug Gti and they want £1300 TPFT, in Devon, with my 58 year old mother on the insurance!!) - thats still much better than most which were £2k+
The car is 1987, but I'm told its the late model 924S with the high compression pistons and a respectable 165bhp - so may get penalised for this if the insurers are clued up (as opposed to an earlier car) Although Lancaster appeared to have a flat rate for all 924/944 and even the 928s and 968s weren't a lot more. Which is very strange given they wanted to charge me four times as much for a 1600cc 1970s Lotus (it seems it all comes down to the badge and believe it or not the Porsche one doesn't seem to be to bad a risk)

I'm used www.elephant.co.uk they only people who gave me a sensible quote. I had no "no claims" bonus at the time and the first car I had to insure in my own name was a 993. I phoned A LOT of companies!!

Sadly, I lack the no claims, which would be fair enough if I'd actually hit anything, but have a clean record since I was 17. Elephant offered £1347, which is up there with the best of the regular insurers, but still not as good as the spefcialist - Lancaster still the best I've found, but waiting to hear back from Footman James (who insure my Quantum) and Adrian Flux (who gave me a very good quote when I wasa looking at Excels). SO, fingers crossed...
