A friend told me this on good authority, some one he knows went past a speed camera one day and it flashed twice so he knew he was nicked, the ticket arrived with days.

He knew some one that had the exact same car as him so he went and bought another set of number plates for his own car and got his mate to put them on his car.

Same time same day but one week later he booked his car in the local quick fit for a check up (so it would be on the computer)and his mate goes past the speed camera and sets it off.

He sent the first NIP back saying it was`nt him but he can`t prove it, then when the second one came through he kicks off big style this time sending proof that his car was in the garage saying that there must be a ringer going round with his number plate on it.

The out come was he denied both charges, the case got postponed the first time then the day before the second hearing they dropped the charge.

It sounded possible to me.

Not if the those processing the offences are switched on. (I won't say why though)

What he means is they'll look for differences in the cars in the photos. Stuff like stickers, marks etc

jesus what is it with people today? commit a (several) serious offences to get off a ticket. maybe its all these programmes on tv like police camera action where the police rarely catch any car theives and when they do they are let off. pathetic. unfortunately if you have a job and a life they can royally screw you.

i also suspect that these companies that make numberplates are under some kind of obligation to record and submit the numbers that they produce and who for. (maybe what vh was getting at)

Or indeed many trade/car shows (I picked up my slightly-smaller-than-standard front plate at teh Autosport show. No kite-mark and not something that a legally compliant plate maker can make. It is completely readable from distance and not pee-taking so I can't see the problem

As for going to that level of effort to evade the law... it's no wonder speeders are viewed in the same light as real criminals! If you get caught speeding then tough. It may suck and may be a revenue not safety exercise but that's the way it is right now. be more observant or buy a detector/gps thingy.

yeah. they're the ones i meant. bought one recently on t'internet. they seem like pretty legit companies. i'll bet in the current 'security' environment they have been 'persuaded' to 'assist' the security services/govmt after all there is absolutely no point in all the checks need to buy one at halfrauds if they are so easily bypassed

Which would prove it's a ringer... Original poster well and truly off the hook. I suspect VH means something else, but I'm not saying what either

It's still very easy to get number plate blanks if you know where to look.

Get caught doing what is suggested here and you can probably look forward to a few months inside one of Her Majesty's institutions. There are better ways of getting away with it.

Go to Pepipoo, use their recommendations, and pay nothing, get no points and don't risk going in the nick. That's the best way.

Couldn't agree more - this is one of the daftest threads I have seen
