Can an employer recall a bacs transfer and leave you with no cash in the bank on payday!

Anything is possible, but usually its because the BACS run was done after the deadline time and it turns up a day later. Talk to your employer

Once upon a time I manajed to cock up a bacs run for the East Anglian health authority, it meant they all got paid twice...all of them
Luckily I realised my mistake and we were able to recall the extra cash before they spent it.

Admittidly they had made a cock up but, what i am trying to sort out are they permited to recall the payment and leave you skint until they sort it out.

I was under the impression that they have to give you 7 days notive of the request to reclaim the money>

Do you know how? I tried to have one recalled once and the idiots at H**C said it couldn't be done.

Technically it can be done.

Whether they're allowed to or not depends on you T&Cs of employment

We send BACS payments via the Lloyds link system - yes then can be stopped if sent but only within a short period of time. I think within the same working day you can phone up (in my case LLyoyds link) and cancel the whole batch. might be able the next day as well.

Bacs payments take 2 working days to enter the other account. sometimes 3 for B/S

Our BACS payments are batches of about 5-25 individual items each day. We have cancelled the whole batch before almost immediatly when there was a major error, but if its a small error on one payment we would normally correct on an individual basis rather than stop the whole batch.

So yes you can stop BACS payments but you need to be quick. Dont have to give a reason either.

thanks for the info it seems a bit underhand, that they have cancel the bacs transfer for me, and left me with no pay this month.... For an error of this magnitude i would have expected for the correction to be made in the next months pay not to cancle the whole payment..

Thanks

I had a similar thing with a wages payment into my account a few years ago. Didn't know it had even happened until I got a bank statement through which showed that they had paid TEN times more into my account that they should have but almost immediatly took it back out and put in the correct amount.
Shame on the wages department for spotting it

I think they'd be paying my bank charges as well as my salary on Monday if they did that to me.

Unless, you've been a naughty boy and they've caught you doing something you shouldn't be doing?

not that I think you are likely to do anything naughty, but it could be a reason for the cancelled pay
