Anyone know what a s/h 997 to use as a base for a conversion would cost?

How long ruf take to do conversions (i.e. if (err my friend ) wanted the car in september when would I have to order?

What the total cost of a conversion would be? Think the article in GT PP said around 17k, but can't remember if thats just engine mods, or interior bodywork too...

Also is this a standard porsche width car - or is it wider with the new bodykit?

OVerall I think this looks like a serious real world practical supercar - 420bhp is a a serious amount of power in a 997, and with over 450nM torque it's going to be an overtaking monster. Body styling looks great too - think I'll have one in battleship grey with an orange interior...

I was quoted 3 weeks to convert the engine of my 993 turbo into Turbo R spec. I think the supercharger upgrade would take less time.

You can ask Herr Ruf yourself on MiniHoon.

I certainly will JC Really looking forward to the trip now - and can't wait to see what RUF are up to, whatever they're planning with the Cayman might be interesting also...

I'm sure the info on the 420PS 997 was in last months GTPP - I skimmed it at the airport the other week, but didn't buy it, now kicking myself 'cos I can't find a copy in london anywhere!

Anyone else got a copy of the article they could email me?

There are 2 ways of going about this with RUF. The first one is to buy a new car from them. This car is called RUF R Kompressor. It's about 140.000 Euro excl. VAT. This car will have RUF VIN and all exterior and interior mods. Here is a link: www.ruf-automobile.de/content.php?seite=seiten/modelle.php&archiv=&jahr=&details=19

The second option is to convert an existing car. It's about USD 23,000 incl. VAT and only involves the engine upgrade with Kompressor etc. Here is a link for that: www.rufautocentre.com/conversions/997.asp

You can't go wrong either way!

Cool - already spent a fair bit of time on the RUF website but those figures are useful.

Interested to know the cost of the body mods, wheels interior etc too.
Trying to work out if it's better value to buy a s/h 997S LHD from mobile.de then get it converted, or whether that cost will get so close to the 140000 Euros that you might as well buy new from RUF anyway (which I probably couldn't afford to do but hey it's worth finding out...)

There is a another solution for you. The green car shown in the link I posted is for sale for about 100.000 Euro. It's actually black underneath (the green is tape!) and has 1,000 miles on the clock.

interesting...
Still probably not going to be mine that one - doubt I could sell the Mog quick enough, and having only just got it out of winter storage, I'm kind of looking forward to driving it for a couple of months at least

If there are more similar spec cars about in May, then it's a distinct possiblity...

sorry to bump this to the top, but manager to find GT PP mag today, so heres the cost breakdown for the various upgrades fitted to the green foil covered RUR RK.

Kompressor Conversion for 3.8l Carrera S engine £12,156 (355bhp - 435bhp)
Height Adjustable Suspension £ 2100
Front bumber £ 2,100
Rear Bumper £1,400
Carbon rear spoiler and engine cover £4,000

Plus Brakes, Wheels which I don't ahve prices for).

So total conversion cost is £21,756 to go from Carrera S spec to RUF R Kompressor Spec

Apparrently the supercharger can be fitted to any water cooled engine from porsche.

Just get a 997 TT, you'll save loads in derpreciation, and dynamically, it will p over
a converted car, as it will have the chassis/ brakes to cope with the extra power.

IMO.

I'm not sure the choice is so obvious... The RUF could have tweaked suspension as well. So in performance terms I wouldn't presume that a 997 TT will be better dynamically. Two very different cars, both awesome. You are probably right about depreciation being higher on the RUF though. On the other hand it will be a much rarer animal. As always then it's a question of taste!
