Is this essential in a boxster or not. What allowance should be made for not having it, Would it be silly to consider buying a car with out. all views appreciated

I would suspect that most people these days would expect air con. are you looking at it for resale value and resaleability?

Air con. is definitely a plus in a Boxster, because it can get warm in there especially if pressing on and working the engine. Remember it's mid-engined so there's a lot of heat being generated right behind you.

Hi there looking at it for resale value, will it be much harder to sell.

Or should i just not go down that route of considering one. i have air con in my car L200 do not give it much thought, but do not want to regret buying a boxster if it makes driving uncomfortable with where engine is situated. How much less are they worth without air con, or is it important as having 4 wheels

I was going to write a long email about the pros and cons of AC, resale value etc. In the end I'll sumarise it by stating that I wouldn't touch a non AC Boxter with a bargepole. There are plenty of AC cars out there at good prices.

When you say £3grand cheaper is that on a new new car.

How much extra was it as a option from new.

so if i was to buy a car say 4 to 6 year old what percentage should i allow for no air con and to also take into account the problem i might have at resale, i would obviously have to sell it at a lower amount again

Because some days it's too hot to have the roof down. Not when you're hooning, but when you're stuck in traffic in the mid day sun without A/C it gets unbearably hot under a black canvas roof, that's why not

No, £1500 wouldn't make up for the discomfort whilst driving it or for the hassle when it comes to selling it. It would have to be down to about the 10K mark for me to show any interest, and then I'd probably turn my nose up, point at the car and say "look that Porsche is only 10K because it hasn't got AC".

so looks like no air con is definelty a no no. regardless of what discounted price. You would of thought when people were getting there cars specd OPc would of told them it was an essential amust or car is useless without it

Essential

I've editted this to add...

People who buy a car set a budget and then look for the best car that fits their budget. You could say they will buy a non ac car that's a year newer, for their budget, but I think most people will buy the loaded car, in the year they expected, at the budget they expected. They will know the 2 year re-sale price and will know that it will sell.

The below budget car, with no ac, is there, below budget, because it isn't selling. Who wants to be the next guy that can't sell it?

Why the original owners didn't spec A/C on their new Boxters is one of lifes great mysteries. Perhaps A/C was bundled together with some other options and the cost took many company buyers over their threshold? Perhaps it was available as a single option and was ludicrously priced?

Gave my Boxster away..........so much tat out their dragging down the genuinely fantastic Boxsters. Stop, Look, Buy off an Enthusiast......

will take that word of advice.

Air con is only way to go with boxster. Sounds like you let your boxster go for a silly price, even yours had air con i presume.

take it boxster selling market is hard at moment, do you thing prices will go mad come a few more sunny days.

i suppose it seems daft having a "porsche" with no air as most everyday cars come with them as standard.

The next hard step is finding a car that has been well maintained as there is alot of good and bad out there.

a minor point perhaps, but all boxsters now come with a/c as standard with a climate upgrade. i should imagine part of the reasoning behind this decision by porsche is for the dealers resale as a used car.

i also wouldn't consider buying a boxster without a/c. why detract from the experience?

The reason that you will find some very poorly specced Boxsters is that many of them are company purchases, made on behalf of people at the very limit of their allowance, who cannot therefore afford to put on those extras that a private buyer (who has to consider residual value)would see as essential.

I don’t get the convertibles with Air con argument. If it's hot put the roof down - surely good weather is the reason you buy a convertible in the first place ?

Daft as it might sound it is nice to have AC with the hood down on a hot humid day when stuck in traffic. About as eco frendly as those patio heaters but if you're looking to be green you're probably in the wrong forum, never mind the wrong web site.

And when it's raining the AC keeps the cabin dry and the windows mist free.

I personally wouldn't buy a car in the Boxster price bracket without AC.

Absolutely and nearly all of the time I do. But, having owned convertibles for the last eight years there are rare times when it is too sunny to take the roof down. Only happened to me once, but nearly got cooked in an MX-5 in the midday sun when I was stuck in a jam on the M25. Would have been nice to pop the hood on and cool off for a few minutes before continuing the journey topless

It can help you keep comfortable when it's not cobvenient or safe to drop the top. Also, helps demist the windows on cold days.
