Trouble with OPC.. Or is it me?

Cut a long story short,I have an 02 996 C4, I was unfortunate enough to bit hit(jun05) on drivers wing by someone u-turning in the road, proved 100% their fault.

Repaired by Porcshe, replaced many parts including wheel, brakes, steering rack etc. Came back 3months later looking good, however I've had issues with grinding/droning noise from engine on very cold days to which they've replaced alternator,water pump etc. The noise now only happens once a month instead of near daily!.

However in the last (Jan06> few months I've had mild shaking at speeds above 70mph, eventually got sick of it so took back to OPC for check (had two back tyres from them Sep05). They said all wheels out of balance, possible tyre warp. They advised rebalanced out though, however on testing it was still there.. Have now complained in writing to them and Porsche HQ they took the car back in, then advised all 4 tyres warped, 1 rear has small buckle.

Now having done around 9k on rears (3mill left) and similar on front (4mill left) in 6months I'm bemused how 4 tyres can go like this?

Are warped tyres on the 996 common, I've got Pirreli PZero's 285/18's (Carrera 4).

I'm also concerned that there is a slim chance the car is developing a fault due to more sinister reasons from repair..

My OPC flatly refuse to take responsibility for the tyres, advising I have to purchase new ones and they will send old ones off for analysis to Pirreli??

I find this hard to believe !?

Maybe you need to check the alloys. I had three which were found to be out of shape.

Well they've checked that already as per info in post..

Anyone else had warped tyres?

Yep, tyres can go eccentric, although has happened to me recently. I suspect if your car is not used for a while or the previous owner did not use it daily, they can get fed up of having a flat on one side.

Easiest way to check is jack up the wheel and rotate it by hand , if its out of round it will be pretty obvious.

Big rear tyres though are a pig to balance

Just rec'd letter from porsche stating all tyres have evident 'run-out' .. What on earth is this? Has anyone got any views on this or am I the only 911 owner to experience it?

In simple terms your tyres are wobbly and you can see it with your eye.

Go buy some new ones

and your bill for this diagnosis sir will be 180 quid plus vat. sorry, roundness/ elipsoid diagnostics arent covered by the warranty.
