Anybody tried fitting an oil thermostat to their cerby? I'm debating the best way to do it, as I need somewhere to plumb the accusump in and the oil temp sensor.

Favourite flavour so far is one of those 4 point recirculation jobs on the two lines to the cooler, Now I have a variety of JIC ( dash ) hose fittings but will they fit these pipes?

Not keen on using the 'push fit' type, jubilee clips are all very well butnot at70 psi

Longbow (Windsor) is doing this, not sure where he's fitted it though. Would be agood idea for the winter.

Give Trackcar a ring, i am sure he will be able to advise here.

It was suggested to me to put the temp sensor on top of the oil filter. I didnt discuss a thermostat though...

Hi, I've placed mine straight across the oil cooler, where the pipes enter the engine bay. Simon has installed his oil temp sender into the oil filter housing which is a perfectly good way of doing it, you will just need to drill/tap a hole in there for that - I think an electrical unit would be the easiest way. As for connections, you will have to get new bespoke hoses made which isn't that costly. I got mine made via demon tweeks, in fact I have had new fuel hoses made in a similar hose as the standard one were cracking/blistering. I think the attachments onto the oil cooler are a BSP thread, possible 5/8" not sure, but when I disconnected mine it flattened the threads anyway as it had never been undone since first assembly and the dissimilar metals had welded together. I've now got JIC -10 ends all round which works well. If you want to look at some pics, there are some good ones of the oil lines at www.theratpac.com/guest/windsor Also on that point when I removed the oil cooler it had a lot of sludge in the bottom which must have accumulated over the years - apparently it is good practice to remove and flush the cooler once a year to prevent this, which is something I'll be doing from now on.

Hi Matt.
I just use a std thermostat of the 2 entry 2 outlet type you mention with barbed fittins and good quality jubilee clips.. like you I don't trust the plain push fit versions but i do trust jubilee clips lol!
I just cut through teh oil lines with side cutters and carefully wipe incside with a rag and a extending magnet to pick any fragments of metal reinforcing that might go in there (to be fair it'd be a rare occurance if you get a clean cut-through anyway) ..

mocal do a temp sender holder if you don't fancy drilling and tapping hte oil filter housing.

I believe this is how it's done on mine, Joolz at track car solutions did the work for me.

A word of warning though; the first time you drive the car on a really cold day, it will scare the hell out of you how cool the oil stays!!

Neil.

Cheers for all the info, I'll probably go the route Jools suggested and try and work the accusump in elswhere.

Also got my new SPA design dual gauge to fit, which is accurate to within +/-2° and withn 4 % on pressure, so should be nice to see what the engiens is really doing...

Did anyone establish the bore size on the oil pipes from the cooler?

Finally got it all together last night had to 'fettle' one end of the thermostat as it was cast about 1mm bigger than the others.....
Just the oil temp sensor, water system reassembly to go now.....
