How much for a 51 plate 996TT????
Discussion
Im in the process of upgrading from an E46 M3 Cab to a porker. Ive decided the C4s is roughly the same power as the M3 so have opted to go for the 996TT.
I have been offered a 51 plate manual with satnav and 35K miles but am not sure if its worth the money being asked for it. 996TT prices seem to have taken a nosedive over the last yr. I plan to keep the car for a yr and then sell it on to upgrade to the next thing that takes my fancy. Maybe a newer TT. The car is getting a 4yr service b4 sale so that gives me some piece of mind and ill be getting an OPC or RAC check on the car also.
How much would the car be worth on a private sale and is there anything else i would need to look into b4 making the offer/purchase????
Thanks for the help.

Newbie01 the main reason prices are close between all the tt's is that effectively the cars in general have become very cheap at late 40k prices and cant head much lower in the near future imo.THere is also hardly any worthwhile differences between any of the tt's therefore paying a big difference for a later car is not worth it.imo condition and mileage are the most important factors.
I have just, well October 2005, bought a 996TT on a 51 with 25k on the clock. Excellent condition, although has developed a number of problems that the OPC are sorting out. Paid 55K. From that, sounds like you have an ok deal, but get it checked over.
Brake discs, heat shields, corrsion around the door sills and scuffs to the front lip spoiler all seem to be common problems.
As for prices falling, they should bottom out just above the 993 TT (I hope) which seem to be around 45k for a decent low milage late model.

Ive just been on autotrader to have a look at the 02 TT mentioned above and there is an 03/03 996TT Manual for sub 50K from an Independant dealer. Its silver and has a stupid spoiler on the back but with satnav an OPC warranty, just been serviced and 17k miles!!! Im even more confused now!!!

IMO I'd expect early 996TT to start dipping below late 993TT, because there are more 996TT around and the 993TT is the icon of the 993 range. N/A 993's are already holding there own and if not moving ahead of N/A 996.
Hopefully I'll pick up an early 996TT when they reach high 30's.
There are still 993tts about for £60K - a 20k miles would be edging towards that at a dealer - 993TTs are rare - 996TTs are not - search for the two in AutoTrader. To my mind, for the 996TT it's simply that the prices "need" to bottom out above the normally aspirated 996 models. The prices just compress towards this "floor" as ages increase.

Does't make a lot of sense regarding the 993 and 996 TT. the 996 TT is simply a better car and, arguably, as good to look at. The 993TT always looked like a 993 with bits added on.
I must say though, I do miss the more accomplished feel of the 993. In its basic guise its iconic in its shape and the standard c2 and c4 are so much better looking than the 996 versions. I had a 993 3.8 C2 with RS suspension in Riviera blue and with Cargraphic 18" splits. Bumpy, but what a sound and what a looker, if you could cope with the colour. There is something a bit less involving with the 996. But, the 996TT would rip its head off on everyday driving for comfort and speed.
For what its worth, the 993 would lose less money, and the best looking is probably a C4S. Bung on a sports exhaust and do few miles and you should be loosing a lot less than the 996 TT.

When it comes to rare and desireable sports cars.....sense doesn't often come into it.
Although in this case the 993TT is an awesome and sexy looking car and of course better...
being aircooled(flame jacket on and legs it...)

Cut the bullshit folks - the reality is that 966TT /993TT values will be affected by 2nd values of the 997 TT values i.e they will loose 50 % of their current value every 3-4 years.
It's absolute bollox if anyone thinks 996 TT values will "stablise at £40k level" - £20K is more likely which is where 930/964 T prices are currently.

Toby tucker,i want a low mileage mint condition 965 turbo 2..can you get me one for 20k please?..i will take 3 at that price(not lhd, tracked or written off)i think you over generalize and some near perfect 996tt will never get to 20k,the 'dog'ones will of course which is 95% of the cars. You will also find the discussions taking place now were also said with 993's which collapsed in price in the mid 90's and remained largely unchanged(for good cars) to this day.I realise that there are more 996's around but most of them are just used and abused(unlike cherished enthusiast early models)and if you have an extra special 996tt in 10 years time it will be a sought after car....especially when a new m3,audi rs4 etc will 70k new by then!
To those that are lucky enough to consider buying any of the above and to those that are lucky enough to own one already, let's try not to worry so much about perceived values. The next step down the slope is to worry about brake wear, tyres, and fuel consumption.
Just enjoy your good fortune and DRIVE!!
