Why do people refer to the 911 Turbo (whatever the version) as a TT? Porsche dont seem to do this, so where did it come from? Why not just 996T, say?

From the 993 series onwards, the 911 turbos have been equipped with 2 turbos - one for each bank of 3 cylinders. Hence "tt"...

Sorry, I did mean to mention that I knew it was for Twin Turbo, but didnt know why it needed to be spelt out (no pun!). In a similar way, then engine size of the C2 has changed from that in earlier 911's, but people dont call the 997 C2 a C2-3.6.

Aaaahhh, then the question was "Why are the owners of modern 911 turbos so anal that they have to make it clear that their car has two turbos?".

Because we're glory-seeking saddos I guess, and it gives us bragging rights and the possibility to look down on those mere demi-gods who only have one turbo on their 911....

So the plonker with the brolly and bowler is more desirable than the good looking fella in the flasher's jacket??

its only fair TT owners can be left to boast about having not one but 2 turbos, you have to remember some of these guys paid 100k+ over 4-5 years ago and have realistically lost around 60k during ownership, thats enough to make anyone go a little crazy and start gibbering rubbish.

The Cleese and Ronnies pic just looks at generation/age and average purchase price, with an element of user-friendliness in terms of 4wd and electronic cushions, not quality.
