Normal cars boot locks/catches

How does the boot lock/catch work on a 'normal' car, when you open it from inside it pops open?

Could the wedge's boot catch be altered to work like this? Or is it meant to but my spoiler pushes it back down? (I have to have one hand on the boot and one on the button to open the boot)

try fitting a new boot seal,the old one has probably lost it shape and so lets the boot catch again

Is this fairly easy to do? I do have my doubts as to whether it will help, that spoiler is quite heavy - do the SEACs suffer from the same problem?

Take a leaf out of the Esprit's book and use spring-loaded plungers to hold the lid open a couple of cm...

It sounds like you need new gas struts? I recently replaced mine and now the bootlid plus SEAC spoiler pops fully up with one press of the button - and stays up whatever incline I'm parked.
I took the easy route of buying the struts direct from RT Racing. You might be able to track down some from alternative sources and I think there have been posts on this topic before.

Was that was D1MAD at Castle Coombe last year? I think he's got Cavalier ones in, works a treat.

once open the struts keep the boot open unless its on a very steep incline

Maybe WD40 the boot mechanism so that it springs back quicker?

Do the gas struts have to be a specific length or are they a standard length on most cars? Seen cavalier ones mentioned a couple of times, would calibra ones fit/work?

Compressed and extended lengths vary as do rated forces. You need to get the right spec.

I've just replaced the boot seal on mine and it pops up a treat....mind you, it was ok before.
