How much vibration do you guys get when accelerating at 70(ish)mph? I'd expect some, but I've a feeling I'm getting too much.. (Bit new to the car so not sure if its normal or not). Having lifted off and cruised at speed the vibration isn't there, however when I apply the accelerator and either maintain or accelerate through 70 I can feel more than I'm completely happy with.

Just replaced both offside and nearside diff mounts. Didn't see anything odd looking while down there..

None to speak of. Could you have damaged the prop bearings perhaps?

Good luck, hope it's nothing serious.

Had this after replacing diff.

Ended up changing:
Diff rear mount.
Diff bracket top rubber mounts (2 off) inner and outer.
Lobro joints on driveshafts.
Prop UJ's with heavy duty items, balance checked (OK).
Gearbox bottom rubber mount.

Seems OK now :-)

Marcus (I have Ford / makers part numbers for all this - though not to hand for a couple of weeks) Also changed engine mounts as they were shot too.

Thanks chaps.. Verdict from Richard after a test drive was don't break any speed limits and bring her in to be looked at properly asap.

Booked in for the 20th.

Other than that, reckons the car is a good one so I've not bought a lemon. Was pretty happy that I'd not; chap I bought her from was dead straight with me and although a bit of an impluse to buy her, I'd seen a few others before so had at least a vague idea of what I was doing..

Let you know the details as soon as I know..

Don't worry, it's all part of S ownership. It admitedly p*ssed me off no end initially but I'm getting used the required level of care now... more of a hobby than transport

Happy with doing a bit, but spent up to the limit more or less on the theory that I'd not need to do too much for a while yet..

However, 1st blat down the M1 for a few weeks without freezing my butt off today so any niggles forgotten about. Will have the verdict on the vibration this time next week so hoping it won't be too expensive..

Right, got the beastie back now..

Turns out the prop shaft was well and trule knackered. So, reconditioned prop shaft, new joints either end, general strip down and rebuild, and I'm £480 lighter but I've a car that drives like new. I can't believe the difference

Spent the afternoon testing the car in the Peak District and its fantastic!

Serious point chaps. Vibration appeared at about 3-3500 revs only when my foot was down on the accelerator. It started getting a lot worse very quickly week before last although the symptoms were the same. Its worth checking the prop shaft if you get a similar effect. Could be something else, but if it shears completely, you can end up with shards of metal moving very fast at all sorts of odd angles. Can be messy and expensive to fix properly..

How much?! Aren't we just talking about replacing the bearings in the UJs? Does the prop need balancing after replacing the bearings?

I assume this is mostly the labour to remove the exhaust etc.

Mark

PS. Glad you've got it fixed and are pleased with it.

Thats what I thought.. Wasn't too happy with the cost to be honest.. Prop was reconditioned after bearings were replaced, (£150). Pipe came off to do that and one or two other minor things done, (like attaching the pipe properly as it was flapping around).. As you thought, mostly labour charge..

Still a fair bit more than I thought it would be.. Most of the back end has been checked thoroughly now so I know its sound which is a relief as its a new car for me..

At least you know where you stand with it though. I don't know if you're keen on doing this sort of stuff yourself but when you get to know the car a bit better it's not too complicated and with the aid of the good book you'll be saving yourself money left right and center. Recently I took out the engine and the gearbox to get the gearbox reconditioned and saved myself about a grand in the process (pretty much all labour). I think I almost enjoyed it as much as driving it... well, apart from when I got the engine wedged so I couldn't get it in or out of the car that is

All the best,

Mark

Edited to add, it wasn't the first time I'd taken an engine out of a car but it was the first time I'd got around to putting it back in

More than happy with doing this myself, and would have done if I had the time and space but was just a bad time.. I phoned a couple of prop shaft reconditioners in town and they all said they wouldn't touch it as it was a TVR - specialist needed.. That didn't help and as it suddenly got worse feared catastrophie..

Next project will be to sort the brakes all round, (wouldn't mind a little more stopping power), then raise the body and sort the chassis. Oh, and I need to sort a few bits on the exhaust. All this I'll do myself..

Sounds like you'll be busy, good luck.
