Finally realised my lifetime ambition of getting myself a 911. I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous black 964 carrera 4 with black leather interior. I am over the moon with it.The power and build quality is sublime 
I'm now looking forward to a few tweaks like RS steering wheel, better induction airbox for that throaty sound and further down the line a sports suspension pack and exhaust system. Love it.
Any pointers, hints and tips greatly appreciated chaps.

SNAP...picked up my first 911 today. 996 with carerra power kit and cargraphic sports exhaust (sounds gorgeous)
Tips......get out with some other Porkers for a run. I prefer the 964 to the 993 (shock horror). Nice colour too.
Just checked out you pofile. is it a TVR in your picture? if so get used to more reliability now 
If it all mechanically reliable then you should have no problems with it. Just check the oil regular (when the engine is running and on level ground) If you havent got The 964 book by Adrian Streather or the Bently book on the 964 then get it as its good reading and full of advice. Other than that have plenty of fun.

I've just fitted Bilstein dampers, H&R lowered springs, have a set of 18 GT wheels on the way, Calipers are now a loverly shade of Yellow, yep yellow on a red C2, Alpine MP3 player, Alpine speakers all round, re trimmed seats.....the list goes on....
you can see some of my stuff on www.964kevin.dsl.pipex.com though its not all car related.
You may also wish to visit Rennlist, some of us over there meet in Surrey, if you could make that.

Little tip - for the 'better induction airbox' all you'll need is a handy power tool like a drill or a Dremel... just drill out the holes on the flat side of the airbox. Porsche handily marked the holes on standard 'non-motorsound' airboxes, so it's easy to see where to drill. Alternatively, just drill a bunch of 5cm holes in the flat plastic, to allow air in through the side rather than just through the inlet pipe.
There's an article giving proper detail (not my random scribblings) on Rennlist somewhere I think.
Anyway it gives a louder induction scream for zero cost (other than your time drilling the holes), which for most people is a lot cheaper than paying Porsche £100s for a holey piece of plastic.
Also, given you are an ex-TVR owner, get a lairy exhaust on that 911 pronto - it'll release the character of the 911 engine. Believe me, the Porker flat six is *easily* as characterful as anything TVR have ever made, it's just that global sales mean quietest common denominator for the factory exhausts unfortunately
Not sure where in Kent you are, but if you hear a loud 993 thrashing around the Sevenoaks area, that'll probably be me
964s with the J pipe and cat bypass can be utter mentalist loud (i.e. forget trackdays) - so don't think that a liberated 911 can't shout down most TVRs, they most certainly can Dampers will probably be knackered as well unless they've been recently replaced, even standard replacements will make a big difference to the feel of the car. I still need to do mine, as I'm still running the 12 year old originals
- there are loads of options from simple replacements to fully-adjustable stuff. General opinion on this forum appears to be don't bother with fully adjustable unless you know what you're doing and are going to use the adjustments... Enjoy and congrats. Yes i am a TVR S2 owner (up for sale), so am a fan of a sportier exhaust sound! The airbox drilling is on my list of immediate priorities. Does it increase cabin noise dramatically? (intend to combine with a K&N filter)
Its a sweet sounding engine and can imagine how much nicer it will sound with a sportier exhaust system.

Jonzo, contrats on the car and welcome to the 964 family.
As for the air box, I would recommend you do not drill it - just get a K&N Flat replacement filter - does the same job without the risk of crap getting into the filter, etc.
As for other things to do.
1) a complete service including all fuilds and replace the rubber brake hoses with braided units.
2) fit a strut brace - about £150 quid
3) buy a spare DME replay for the glove box - your car will not start if this breaks (and they do!)
4) decide whether you intend to track day your car. If not then consider a Cat by pass (available from 9M), and a cup pipe (cargraphics) for the full 964 sound track - I have done mine and added a RUF twin tail pipe = 108.5db at 4500rpm. RESULT!!
5) fit clear indicators and aero mirrors
6) get the engine chipped or re-mapped
7) add 17" wheels - if not done already - (I would not recommend 18" as there is a question over whether the hubs can take the extra stresses)
8) replace steering wheel - suggest the Tequipment 3 spoke as fitted to the 968 CS - it has an embosed crest rather than the metal one.
9)Invest in some Zymol to keep your baby shiny
10) Make sure your car has has a vent kit fitted to distributor caps
After that things start getting expensive
That should keep you busy for the first 12 months, but just in case join the 964 forum www.smartgroups.com/groups/964porsche - its full of 964 people from all over the world who can help solve any problems or questions you have.

Thanks Meno, i already have some of your list as spec, clear lenses, 17" cup alloys, a full 12000 mile service and all oil lines renewed.
I thought the idea of drilling the holes was to get more airflow into the K&N as otherwise its a little restricted? But what i'll do is put the K&N in first, see how it sounds/feels then if i still think its necessary, drill a couple of holes. Would rather not if not needed.
Are the cup mirrors easy to install/obtain? I fancy a set of them and know someone who could spray them to match the car colour if required.

Welcome to the clan!! As others have already said, all that a 964 owners needs is access to Rennlist, Smartgroups, maybe Titanic, Adrian's book and strong face muscles to handles all the smiles!!!

The holes HAVE to be 2" in diameter - smaller holes will make virtually no difference - and they will do little for the air flow, but will do LOTS for the sound. Many owners with cabs have said that the additional noise, with the top down, is just too much but with a coupe it's probably bearable.
I can recommend the Surrey Rennlist meets which Kevin mentioned - great fun and a knowledgeable group.
