Cadillac (GM - USA) have recently let loose this monstrous luxobarge concept
It is powered by a 16 Valve, 13.6 Liter (that is not a typo), 1000 horsepower engine. I'm just amazed that they didn't try to drag out Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward to drive it...

I'll have a rummage for complete specs but I know it is an aluminum engine. I think the concept was put out to highlight the engine technology. In my opinion, however, the car is just way to Gerry Anderson...

When I saw the engine I couldn't help but think it would make a great tank engine. Think about it, our current tanks put out 800 bhp and are crap.
Stick this in and hey presto 1000bhp and maybe even some reliability. And the tankers can say in complete confidence that their tank really is the "cadillac" of the tank world
Then all you need is some half decent air filters and you could even invade Iraq......

I think Cadillac missed the boat when they failed to produce the Cien:
Now, put that 1000HP monster in the Cien, that would be a halo car.
If they want to continue to produce big cars, I say more power to them. However, there is something about the luxobarge 16 concept that looks out of synch to me. Maybe it's the grill. But then it wouldn't be a Caddy without the grill

Actually I believe that the engine is part of GM's "Displacement Upon Demand" concept. It works off of either 4 or 6 cylinders until the "demand" is applied by the driver. It is a technical way to beat the fuel economy nazis in the US...

General Motors plans to use the largest displacement engines possible to cope with the increasing weight of vehicles and consumers' thirst for more performance.
But more cubic inches under the hood doesn't mean GM engines will be gas guzzlers, said Fritz Indra, GM's chief engine engineer.
Most GM V-6 and V-8 pushrod engines will have cylinder deactivation, which GM calls Displacement on Demand. The system is a computerized engine management system that shuts down cylinders when a vehicle reaches cruising speed. The system works by cutting off oil to lifters, which prevents the valves from opening.
The system debuts later this year on the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. GM has also said that the V-6 engine in the next Chevrolet Malibu will get the system. Other vehicles expected to get the technology include GM's armada of large sport-utilities.
"We are increasing the displacement to the absolute maximum," Indra said. "If you do that, Displacement on Demand makes more and more sense because you can expand the speed where you can use fewer cylinders."
Cylinder deactivation has also been a key part of two GM concept engines; the V-12 scheduled for use in an upcoming Cadillac and the V-16 in the Cadillac Sixteen ultra-luxury concept sedan. GM says that the Sixteen could get 20 mpg on the highway when it is running on four cylinders.
"We decided to choose Displacement on Demand for the main technology for GM," Indra said. "Today when you listen to our presentations, everybody in the company is speaking about it. The whole company is streamlined to one technology."
Indra also said that GM is committed to pushrod engines for most applications.
He said, "If you can get better fuel economy with a pushrod engine compared to a double-overhead-cam four-valve engine, then you have done something wrong if you build the double-overhead four-valve. If you implement more expensive technologies where there is no benefit, you shouldn't do it because you are losing money."
