Are there any skyline owners on here who specifically own R33 GT spec cars, and if so what do you think of them?

There is a dealer near me that often has the aforementioned on his forecourt for around the 4-5k price range, I know its not going to be up to GTR levels of grunt and legendary handling but I reacon must be a pretty good car for the money, I am toying with the idea of getting one to replace my UR quattro.

From what I understand the R33 GT is a single turbo 2.5 litre engined version which puts out around 250ish BHP and is not 4wd unless I am mistaken?

yeah thats about right, easily tuned to a lot more than 250 bhp though. the thing you will find is that they are BIG cars, but they don't really have that much inside space to show for it.

fast enough and handle fairly well (playing drifty or normal driving) from what Ive heard, but still big and heavy. oh and you'll find a distinct lack of traction after the quattro, but you'd expect that.

Two common variants of R33 gtst's that you'll find in the UK, are the M1 & M2-(facelift after Oct '96) the differences are nearly all cosmetic.-easyest way to tell is M2's have an open mouthed grille(similar to GTR), M1 have a slotted one(pic in my profile)
Well... agree with most of what's been said above. It is big & weighty but grip is actually pretty good with decent tyres. Most of those scare stories about twitchy back-end action are a result of poor jap rubber or poor car control IMHO. If modifying is your thing be prepared for some fairly hefty spends, running costs prob similar to that of a Tiv.
There are buyers guides & workshop manuals etc in the Japchat FAQ tab.
Plenty gtsts have been heavily modded then stripped out & returned to standard for import. This doesn't necessarily mean that the engine is shagged but good to know of before commiting to a buy. Have a good squint under the bonnet; check that all the cables, pipework, tubing, connectors etc are all tidily clipped up, & standard looking,- esp around back & front of the inlet manif/plenum.
All the best
Matt
