I test drove a 55 plate 535d M Sport Touring yesterday and I was very impressed.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 535d M Sport Touring and the 535d Sport Touring? For you pedants out there, I know there's a letter M , but other than that what has changed with this car?

The dealer reckons the residual value on an M Sport will be about £2K higher in 3 years time than a car 2 weeks older without the M tag. If that's the case, then surely there must be some difference? Does anyone know if or what?

I had very little time yesterday, and didn't think about it until after I had left the dealership

Cheers

I've looked at the body work in pictures and I can't see a difference between the two

I'll happily be proved wrong, just so that it answers my own question

I'm pretty certain both are the same, a sport has styling, suspension tweaks by Motorsport hence one advertiser use of the 'M'

Only two deratives are SE or Sport then whatever factory extras you wish to add

I note from the latest pricelist the now describe the as 'M Sport'....is the sport last years model?

It could be as simple as that I suppose - they just simply re-labelled it as of 1st Sept 2005...

But are we, as customers, then likely to pay a £2K premium for that in 3 years time without any real difference within the car itself? Or is the marketing cars really that simple?

Sounds to me like its the 'You'd be a fool not to buy my car and buy the other guys, yes I know mine is more expensive but....' line because mine is £xxx more it'll be worth £xxxx when you come to sell it....yeah right!!!
