S1 wing mirrors
Discussion
Does anybody out there know what type of vehicle the wing mirrors came off to fit the S.
The Bible reckons its a citroen, but they deny all knowledge. (might just be my local garage are crap though). I don't mind going the replacement glass route as the bodies are fine.
Has anybody else replaced them recently and can offer advice?
I have measured them in readiness to take a trip to Halfords, but advice is greatfully received.

The wing mirrors are from a french company that went bust over 10 years ago, the mirrors are almost irreplaceable and I spoke to almost everyone in the country trying to get a new one so good luck, actually as luck would have it I have one sitting about 10 feet away from me as I ended up going the custom route. interested??? lol
What was the custom route you went down?
The glass in each of the mirrors is starting to colour up so replacement glass it is.
I seem to remember an Alfa my mate was doing up years ago and got two like the ones fitted to Tivs. Why didnt I buy two then, I must of known I was going to end up with an S some day.....

I also went the MX5 route and get a lot of comments at meets how much they suit the car - there is a pic in my profile if you want to take a look - Oh and also you can actually see behind you with them unlike the originals !!!!
Well there would be a pic in my profile but after updating it with a new pic on 6 seperate occasions it seems to keep returning to the pic of my old M ???

Spivvy,
Mine were not a straight swap and had to do some fibre glassing and paintwork however others who I know who have gone this route have managed a straight swap it depends on wether your originals are sat on the door skin or kind of counter sunk as mine were - I remember seeing an S on PH which had Audi TT mirrors and they looked good also.

Please don't ask me how or why I remember this but I think that was a blue one owned by a guy called Kentish.....? I think he used to post in the S forum quite a bit - maybe worth emailing him through his profile?
How or why do I remember that car / name.....?
Longers
I've just finished fitting Audi TT mirrors to my S1.5 and though I say it myself they look pretty good. I took advice from Kentish before fitting and whilst it was time consuming it wasn't too difficult. If you get it right the Audi TT shrouds cover all the old and new fittings so there is no need to do any fibreglassing. Can provide more details if anyone is interested.

Regarding the Citroen link. The "later" remote control mirrors such as on the later S3's / V8S were Citroen CX origins, also used on Aston Vantage, Lotus Esprit, and a few others.
Looking at changing mine as they are the older early S type with "consatina" boot. The passenger one especially is pi## poor to see anything in.....funny can't remember it being a problem when I had an S1, but it is now?

Spivvy - thanks for the offer, I think I will need to take you up on it.
Tried hosting the pics on UncleDaves site, got the message that the first one uploaded OK but when I checked it only had the top inch or so of the piccie. Is there a preferred size/resolution/format you are supposed to use for these things? I only have dial up, so is it a waste of time to try and post pictures? (you may have gathered that I am not very good with computer stuff!)
Will try and email pics to Spivvy tonight
Cheers
