Hi guys

Been doing a bit of thinking with help from my old man (he's got a Griff)I currently have a Toyota Supra and was thinking of moving up the food chain to a Cerbi, however my age is well against me. I am currently only 22 but think I sould beable to save enough for a cerb by the time I am 25 anyone know if I will get insurance?? It will be used SD&P 6k a year and garaged plus I will be only looking for the 4.2l version as I am sure thats quick enough for me. Oh whats the BHP of the 4.2??

Hi mate!

You'll be able to get insuring, but the cost will be significant. Also, if you're saving to BUY the car, you'd better get used to saving to RUN it. Accepted wisdom suggests you should allow for around £3,000 a year running costs.

There is very little real world difference between the 4.2 and the 4.5 in either power or pace, although many on here get very protective of their view on it! Approx power for the 4.2 is 360BHP.

Running costs arn't too much of a problem as the Supra is a thirsty beast and Toyota arn't very helpful when it comes to work on them. Am I right in thinking the Cerbi does 0-60 in 3.9? If that is the case can someone shed some info my way on how it acheaves this as my old man's griff 500 does it in 4.8 I think so how can a 4.2/4.5 be quicker than a 5.0 but use the same power? sorry for the dumb question

I moved from a Mitsi GTO twin turbo when I was just about to turn 27 and my insurance halved!

Griffs and Chims have the Rover V8, the Cerb has the AJP V8 - totally different engines. The Cerb engine is a race engine - sounds like a bag of spanners compared to the old Rover V8. It's not just petrol costs in running a Cerb - you need £3k a year on top of Fuel, it will have nowhere near the reliability of your Supra.
The 4.5 does 0-60 in 3.9, the 4.2 in 4.2 - but remember thats an experienced tester getting those times, in the real world there isnt much between the 2.

Ah I see didnt realise that the engines were different I assumed it was just a Rover V8 you learn somthing new everyday, when you say that it will be unrealiable how unreliable are we talking about? My old man has had his Griff for 5 years and the only thing to go wrong is the starter motor (that we are taking apart next week)

We bought our Cerb at 23 & insurance was £950, so at 25, you'll have no problems at all (we're now 27 & got hte insurance down to £495 ! )

You'll only notice a difference between 4.2 & 4.5 once your in excess of 120mph (which of course will never happen on the road, so you'll be fine ! )

Well I am sure the 4.2 will be a hell of alot quicker and Torquer than my 225 supra lol.

Is there anything that can go wrong big time with the V8 or is it bullet proof?

Have a good read through of the last 10 pages of threads. It might take an evening but you will have more of a feel for what these cars are about.

You might be able to blag a passenger ride in one as well and then you will feel the difference between the RV8 and AJP.

Or you could pop over to Santa Pod next week where there will be quite a few Cerberas on show, and if you ask nicely you might get the chance to be taken for a test drive.

Hi mate, im 25 and my insurance is just under £700 with priviledge, with a 5k mile fully comp sd&p policy.

It will feel a lot quicker than your dads griff by the way!
