Usually his cockery is like water off a duck's back for me - I ignore it.

However, I did actually get annoyed by him today. We had some of the best racing in ages and then the SC came out. What did James Allen say? Something along the lines of "thank God for that as I was finding the pressure of commentating on an exciting race too much for me" (I paraphrase).

(I forget exactly what he said, but he did express relief / pleasure that the race had settled down. The cock.)

It could be worse, we could have John Watson (great driver, maximum respect) sitting alongside him.. his expert comments in A1GP are to say the least irritating! I'm not sure that he watches the race and he sure as hell has trouble remembering the national colour schemes.... and my God, does his voice drone or what?!!

Just been watching WTCC on Eurosport and the commentator is superb!.. Anyone know his name?

Edited to add:
The Eurosport commentator is Martin Haven and he has David Leslie along side giving expert opinions... very good team!!

Ben Edwards used to be very good on Eurosport as well (with Watson on Sky Digital F1 when it was on).

My favourite pairing has to be Toby and Julian doing the MotoGP on Eurosport though.

Outside of a commentary box, he is. Its when he starts talking about a motor race that he comes over all knob like.

Today he kept saying how Montoyas spin on the parade lap had affected his race. The way he was saying it made it sound like Montoya had been made to start from the back of the grid

We had Murray Walker commentating on Australian TV, it was just like old times again. As if we had stepped back into a more civilised period.

Quite right. And David Duffield can even make the Tour de France interesting for 5 hours a day. For 3 weeks!! Beat that!!!

Ben Edwards is good, and his voice has character. Coupled with Brundle's tech insight, it would work well.

Thinking about it, doesn't he do the tin top banger racing, sorry, BTCC now with Roughly Henderson?

It's a shame we can't use an interactive feature and choose commentators, or even have none. F1 Digital had something similar to this and it was excellent. Surely ITV must get a lot of negative feedback about him.

As a Brit who is not a flag waving fan of JB it gets even worse.

Murray Walker used to irritate me too

Anyone who watches itv's rally coverage knows that the cock is actually a reasonable commentator and that it could be one heck of a lot worse.

Aren't all these threads about James Allen getting a bit boring now. As are F1 threads tbh. Should have its own section IMO. Just a suggestion for the mods

Same answer as always; if they don't interest you don't read them p.s. Where else would you put F1 racing threads other than under motorsport Rich...

So what would you rather be talking about.. most of the time this forum is as dead as a dodo. I'd happily particpate in threads to do with GP2, F3, A1GP, IRL, Champ, WTCC, DTM etc... but not too many of these in evidence.
