As long as the car is as described in the advert then you have done nothing wrong.

Also consider that the guy may have planned this scenario all along. After all, if this situation was normal, instead of viewing, having a car professionally inspected and test driving a car, you could buy a car 'on spec' at a knock-down price on private sale and then demand every fault be put right after you have the car.

IMHO you may be being taken for a ride. There are three possible scenarios:

1) Your advert is genuinely misleading.
2) The guy is being genuine but is being nieve in not vieing the car.
3) He wants the car, but wants it in the condition he wants it at your cost and is trying his luck.

Depending on which way you want to go, you could bluff him. Most likely he will get legal advice and they will tell him how stupid he has been. He will have to prove to the court that you 20 year old classic sports car should be in 'as new' condition, and why he didnt feel it necesssary to view it. His chances of success are very slim.

If you are still worried, you could explain in writing that the car is as described but as a goodwill gesture you will give him a refund as long as the car is delivered back in the same condition within 7 days. If he is trying it on, ie wanting you to pay thousands for HIS car, he will refuse. However at a court hearing this will be further proof on your side.

We need to see the original advertisement. All bets are off until then.

Private sale. "Caveat emptor".

You could be nice and offer him his money back, or nasty and tell him to get stuffed. Either way he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
