I caught the chin spoiler on a parking bay kerb stone a few weeks ago and pulled it off. Wasn't too much of a problem, minus the spoiler, the bonnet vibrates like hell at about 120, but it's not often I would do that sort of speed *cough* so I had to fix it again ASAP.

The front of the car is just a touch too low to get my cordless screwdriver in, so I used the wooden blocks that stop it from rolling down the drive as a little ramp. Fired her up, drove the front wheels onto the blocks - perfect. Refixed the chin spoiler dead easy.

Unfortunately, now the wooden blocks that normally stop the car rolling down the drive were under the front wheels, so care was needed to reverse back off. Fired it up, put it in reverse, steady on the clutch, released the handbrake. Stalled it, handbrake failed to hold the car and it clunked straight into my little brick garden planter. Bollocks!

So I can now drive at over 120 mph with absolutely no vibration from the bonnet, but I've put a nice scratch underneath the front valance and put a small crack in the fibreglass. So that little spoiler does serve a purpose, but I wish I'd turned the car round first and put it on axle stands. Lesson learnt the hard way.

I always get a bit confused when people talk about chin spoilers on the Cerb - where is it and what does it look like? The bit under the front of mine is perfectly smooth, although I have seen a Tuscan S with an odd looking bit of GRP sticking out which was begging to get ripped off at the fist opportunity - do later Cerbs have these as well???

Ali lip riveted to the rear edge of the front fibrglass moulding. It's about an inch wide and runs the width of the car (roughly) at a 45° angle rearwards.

Does that make sense?

By the way Byff. You have my sympathy if no-one elses.

Now go and take a picture of that little spoiler, I'm intrigued!

the chin spolier cant be seen unless under the car. So nothing exciting really. Just a plate of metal that sits underneath the front of the car.

Ok, pictures tomorrow, but I'll not be putting it on the blocks to get a better angle, that's for sure

Forgive the crude drawing, but when you say "at a 45° angle rearwards" do you mean as in drawing B?

Mine is missing also so going to knock one up to cut down air collecting under bonnet.

my bonnet has always wanted to take off - rolf harris wobble board style
to the extent the ally bars holding it down snapped and Ive had to fabricate a temp repair!

I have no "chin spoiler" - plus she feels light over 100 mph

Would this simple spoiler/ splitter do the job then? - cant imagine it lasting long as
she gounds on everything already!!

my last cerb didnt have one and felt light at high speeds and the bonnet flapped loads.
Current cerb does have the spoiler and feels pretty planted at high speed and the bonnet is solid as a rock.

Really! so I can see that would deflect the air flow downwards and away from the under bonnet area but surely would also generate lift at high speeds?

I would say the angle is more like 33°

I've crawled around under my car many a times and to tell you the truth, I never noticed it had the spoiler on until I ripped it off. So if you are not experiencing any bonnet vibrations at high speed, it's possible you just havn't noticed it under the layers of black underseal.

I mentioned this to my Indie when I first bought the car, and most peoples will be missing.

You'll probably see the rivets left over from where it was originally fitted.

My car's been in various places, main dealers etc & no body's made a point of the fact that it's missing.

I've not heard of A tiv taking off yet either in a Mercedes type sty-lee

Edited to add that originally it was mounted about 6" further to the front of the car, hopefully it might stay on longer now it's a bit furhter back
