What are peoples thoughts regarding the different makes for the E39?

I don't want to go for the add on rings as i feel the original headlights are quite outdated. At the same time i dont want to go for a cheap & nasty set or pay top whack for some.

What has everyone else got who has upgraded their lights & are the facelift versions worth the money?
