Oulton this Saturday
Discussion
Driving mentalist 500 mile round trip to attend EERC meeting on Saturday at Oulton. Was wondering who else would be attending because at Silverstone there seemed to be more competitors than fans, which is a great shame because the EERC meetings are superb.
Also due to the driving distance, its my first trip to Oulton. Can anyone tell me the best place to watch the action, and in particular whether I have to abandon my car in a car park outside the track or not?
Cheers.
Hello, Britcar fan. Welcome to PistonHeads.
I'll be at Oulton for sure, having missed last weekend's opener at Silverstone. I spectated at nearly every EERC round last year, including all night at the 24 hours!
The series at the moment is certainly more competitor-heavy, but at least that means as a spectator you're not battling loads of other folks to try and see the track!
As far as Oulton Park goes, you've got a choice of where to park. You can either head for the main entrance which takes you over a bridge near Lodge corner, or you head round to the other entrance which brings you in at Knickerbrook. I'd personally recommend going in the main entrance as you can park where you like, and if you fancy a stroll up the other other side of the track (i.e. Knickerbrook to Island) you can cross the footbridge up Clay Hill.
There's going to be a good entry for this race, I think, as more cars are ready than last weekend. Keep an eye on this forum too. There's plenty of PHers involved in the EERC series so there's people to say hi to in the paddock and cheer on in the races!
Maybe see you there.

My favourite place is near the disabled parking that overlooks cascades. It's close to the business centre so easy to find.

Thanks for your responses.
Trackside - Me and the missus also went to last years 24 hour race, our first ever 24 hour race! I have to be honest I did struggle to stay awake for the whole event, despite drinking huge amounts of Red Bull!
There are loads of excellent teams, cars and drivers but my two personal favourites are the GTS BMW M3 and Richard Chamberlain's awesome Porsche 935 Replica. However to be honest I don't really mind who wins as long as there is a good grid of cars and some decent battles on track.
Unfortunately I am now going by myself on Saturday . Was going with the missus but she has now got to work, and all my mates are working as well.
If you see me there by all means come say hello. I will be driving a dark blue O3 reg Renault Clio with a Newcastle United Toon Army scarf (I know sad isn't it!) in the back window.

I'll be in the car in my profile, with the dealership name writ large across the back bumper.
I like the GTS BeeEm too. Makes a superb noise and David Leslie doesn't generally hang about either. Bo McCormick & Calum Lockie's Ferrari is another favourite, especially when Calum's driving.
Actually, I'm a bit like you in that I don't really mind who wins, just so long as it's a good race! Britfan, feel free to pop into the TopCats garage to say hi - look out for two siver Marcos Mantis NGT's On track they'lll be in front of the grey beetle with the orange stripes driven by the pie men!!
Deer leap can be a good palce to watch as people exit Lodge - a great overtaking spot.
Cheers

Darren, I will pop in and say hi. And thanks for the advice on where to watch, its always good to see some overtaking, I have been to 7 Grand Prix and I don't remember seeing one overtaking manoeuvre!
Trackside, I was at Silverstone for the first round and Calum Lockie was awesome in the wet . Hopefully it will stay dry at Oulton because in the wet you don't get to see the cars going flat out. I agree the GTS BeeEm does sound great
. It was not at its best at Silverstone though because they were running with a back up engine with less power than there usual unit, which failed in testing I believe.

Oulton is a great place to drive and I suspect to watch also. If you can get onto the pit wall watching the cars come over Deer Leap onto the start finish straight is amazing. They just seem to float on the track! Anyway, lets hope it stays dry - my poor co driver is worried enough as it is!
See you all on Friday.
Richard.

Hey buddy, feel free to pop in and put a face to name, you'll have at best a 1 in 5 chance of getting it right with those of us working on the cars this weekend - assume anyone lazing about it on the management team!!
You might even get the chance of a cuppa, though i'd avoid the buscuits if you want to keep your hands!!
Hope that the rain stays away and we get some great running at what is a great circuit. Would be nice to have a sunny race and not be damp for the best part of three days
Cheers
Darren

Jemco Racing will not be at Oulton this week, preferring instead to carry out some work on the Marcos - that means Topcat taking the Marcos fight to the Beetles and puffed out Beamers, therefore Darren.......Jemco excepts !!!
Good luck to all.
Ah shame to hear that you're not Andy, the car was looking good at Silverstone. Will be sure to give the beetles and fiats a run this time out

Darren, thanks. I'll drop by and say hello. No Sagaris on the entry list, when's it due out?
Paul, I was actually a little disappointed by the entry for Oulton. It would appear that the GTS M3 and the Hargreaves Ferrari are going to be absent which is a shame as they are two guaranteed front-runners. No Noble either (did it come out at Silverstone?). Hopefully the V8s will turn up and run and maybe the F40 will do more than a couple of laps of practice.
Still, Henry nearly won this Oulton round last year, only beaten by the Noble IIRC. See where I'm heading with this one, Henry? Only got the Marcoses to beat then...
(Oh, and maybe that big orange beastie too...)
Stands back and waits for the inevitable comments...

We beat the Noble quite easily, I think it might have slightly overheated at one stage in the pit lane, I certainly remember flames of some description.
Pete was pretty much born on the circuit and knows it better than his scrotum so will be straight on the pace. Certainly we`re looking forward to it. Hopefully pleanty of rain to help the Marcos brothers. They keep muttering on about ABS, I thought the fact their whole cars were made of ABS would be an advantage, only our brakes have got ABS

Hi James,
You can find a timetable on the EERC website. If you use the URL below:
www.eerc.co.uk/cms/e107_plugins/afm2/afm.php?acat.3
When you use this URL it will show all the downloads related to the Oulton Park round. Amongst these you will see the race day timetable.
Hope this helps.

I remember the Noble driving round with it's arse covered in fire extinguishant now I think about. Just looked on the MST site and saw that it was, of course, the Parr Motorsport 911 of Bill Cameron and Barry Horne who won that day with your good self finishing 2nd. Best of luck on Saturday.
