I recently (about 2 months ago) got a new 400 gb hdd. It's not the boot drive. Thing is, I think its failing, but system status lists it as "healthy". Is there any way of hardware-testing? Any software that will actually test if the driving is working fine or if it is about to fail? I'm backing-up everything to another disk but don't really know what to do next?

Symptoms were drive started getting very slow and done some noise when running 2 things at once (copy a file to a different disk + run a regular divx video from it. Nothing that should be THAT intensive for a modern hdd. It apparently "fixed" itself after a reboot but to be honest I got a bit scared. Anyway of knowing for sure? Anyone know any proggies to test this sort of thing?

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the manufacturer's www site? As most of them have non-destructive softwarefor performing diagnostic checks....
