wheel polishing disaster

i had my oz wheels mirror polished last week to keep as spares while the 17" rims are on the car
the result ?
bloody awful !
what seemed like a good idea when looking at the mirror finished rims off the car, when fitted looked like some thing off "pimp my ride"
what a complete waste of time - i'm having them powdercoated in dark charcoal instead now
funny how things look different in your head to the reality

Don't you just hate it when that happens.

I've just spent two beautiful weekends doing a Steve J (or Clve F can't remember). I've polished mine by hand. They have come up great. I would call it a warm polished Ally look, not mirror.

Granted without laquer it'll be an endless task keeping them polished, but at least they only cost me the price of 6 different gits of wet'n'dry, and a Al polishing compound and mop.



Note the new centre decals and TVR dust caps...

Big Ian, twas me, spent upwards of 30 hours doing mine as the lacquer was peeling and there was deep pitting corrosion on them, I`ve spent countless hours polishing with mops and what I believe to be a good polish, Meguires next generation polish. Trouble is it`s an endless task keeping them shiny.

When I read the above I thought you'd had a similar experience to Steve or Clive when we camped with them at Silverstone last year - I'm not sure which of them emerged from their tent and said "I've just woken up in a puddle"....!!

Am glad that all you've done is polish your wheels - they're looking good. Does this mean you'll be driving slowly to Le Mans to keep the brake dust off?!

Nice wheels Ian, really smart . Longers, twas I who woke up in a puddle at Silverstone, new tent,sleeping bag etc etc. Still it didnt spoil the weekend and I would do it all again, good racing and of course SCH3. If I could post a piccie on here I would post Clivef drying his feet over the barbeque at Silverstone, but I`m sure you can imagine it

Break dust?? That is what the break dust covers are for....
