i have been driving for 2 years and am not so sure about how u get done for speeding.
If you get flashed by a camera, or if a policeman stops you, then i know u will get a ticket, or a fine through the post, but are there any other ways in which you will get fined.
Say, for example one was to go 120mph on a deserted motorway late at night, and there are no flashes, and no coppers about, how would any gatso/flash/camera able to get you?

A GATSO would get you at anything up to around 170mph (according to a top gear test IIRC). Ditto a copper.
If the motorway was deserted, you could still be caught by a laser (van on a bridge, or sliproad). I'm not sure how a laser would work in an unlit section of motorway - IR lamp perhaps?

Suppose you could have been doen by a Talivan on a bridge, although I'd have thought you were so dangerous at 120mph that they would have closed the motorway and shot you on the spot
If this isnt in response to an actual NIP, but a mates comments, tell them not to be so silly, and next time, get your mate to tell us about 120Mph on a private autobahn, obviously not a public highway.

cheers for that. So there has to be a van or something on a bridge?
Of course i am referring to a private road when i am talking about driving over 100mph
So, if one was to travel over 100mph at night, u only get caught, if there are cameras, a copper, or a van on a bridge?
I got stopped by the police yesterday for driving 3 mph, apparently i was driving like an idiot, and the policeman told me to go home, so i did.
Last week i got pulled by another policeman in an unmarked bmw 330 cd coupe! that time it was a caution for staring at him when i should of been looking at the road

If he saw you staring at him, and knew you were staring, then by logic he must have also been staring back at you.
Did he caution himself for being so inattentive
Some Plod just don't know when they are actually making themselves look stupid trying to make you feel bad for something that actually isn't!

You can be caught for speeding:
1) By a static GATSO camera - which flashes
2) By a static Truvelo camera - which does not
3) By a SPECS system (several cameras in a row that detect *average* speed over a known area
4) By a Safety Camera Partnership van or Trafpol car using a laser gun. Doesn't flash in any way and can meaure your speed from half a mile away.
5) By a marked Traffic Police vehicle all liveried up following you
6) By an unmarked Traffic Police vehicle with no markings following you
A whole lot of ways.
A little bit over the limit and 4,5 and 6 won't bother.
Ten mph over the limit and 4 will. 5 and 6 may not.
Twenty mph over the limit and 5 and 6 may well bother.
More and they certainly will.
Over 100mph will see you banned.
Much more than that will see you banned for a looong time.
Careful when you speed, eh? You're rolling the dice each time you do.
If you think your Observation and Anticipation is up to spotting and, even better, predicting areas where your speed might be measured then perhaps you'll get away with it. My current average is three points every ten years. I can live with that...

All speedmeter/speed cameras work perfectly at night (in darkness).
Lidar (laser) inherently provides its own light, but it is Infra-Red so you won’t see it (Lidar doesn’t read your plate)
SPECS (‘average speed’ cameras, will also read your plate) use LED arrays emitting infra-red, again you won’t see the light from these. Same with ANPR (does not measure speed).
Static Truvelos DO flash - very visibly so. I live local to several of these, seen many a motorist get caught, indicated by a blinding pink flash! (immediately followed by a great amount of panic breaking)

2) They do flash
4) The laser can measure up to a mile, so if Trafpol they could stop you after taking a reading at the distance. However, a SCP doesn't stop you and takes a photo/video still - the optics on these camera's are only good out to about qtr of mile.

Am i missing something here?
You got stopped for driving at 3mph? I assume you were not in a traffic jam...why were you driving at 3mph, out of interest?

i got done at 3mph when i was going to park , saw the cop behind me changed my mind about parking, reverseed out, but slowly, then went back, cop stopped me and said i am an idiot. then he asked if i was lost, then i went down a road it was a dead end then i had to do a further 3 point turn in front of the copper , i was lost though
