Fibreglass bodywork - yes or no
Discussion
Hi,
I've got a 1983 911SC with a pair of rusty from wings. The rest of the car is in reasonable nick. New front wings are £550 +vat, which leaves little change out of £2K once fitted and spayed up. I'm on a limited budget, and have seen that you can get fibreglass wings for £150+ vat. This would bring the overall cost of the job down to a more resonable/affordable amount.
Is there anyone out there with any experience of fibreglass bodywork? Do they fit OK, and look as good as the originals?
Would I kill the resale value of the car as it is no longer original?
Many thanks,
Nigel

Depends what you want, don't worry about the final finish I have a modified 1970 911 with sc wings fitted the fronts are f/glass and I challenge anyone to tell without going up to them and knocking them, and I run a bodyshop specialising in porsche's.
The secret is to get good quality thick fibreglass "road" quality wings, and have them fitted by somone who specialises in Fibreglass work they are different to fit than steel.
But they are a lot cheaper and lighter and don't rust so have many benefits, although cars with F/Glass panels are harder to sell and worth less due to most people having a strange dislike to them (most people seem to like rust and high prices!) its a bit like the LHD/RHD debate no one is right we all have out own opinions.
Oh and F/Glass doesnt get dinted in the carpark either!
