Are TVR performance figures accurate?
Discussion
Not sure if this has been done before, but I was wondering how accurate the performance figures were for our Chims, ( and the other models), having read the BHP real world figures from some of you guys.
So,,,,, does anyone tried out their best 0-60 and top speed figures for the 4, 4.5 (mine) and 5 ltrs.
All I know is that my speedo shows 40 in first before I need to change to 2nd, but have not gone over 100mph yet!! just be intersting to know if it can really do 160 top speed!
Chris ( who's Chim has just about thawed out on the drive!)

Since it is unlikely you will ever test it, and any way it makes no odds whether it does or not, I can confidentally say yes it will do 160 mph!
This has been done before, many times but rolling road tests have been done and they showed all TVR's except the 4.2 Cerb and the speed six engined cars to be well down on TVR's BHP claims, However top speeds, 0-60 and 0-100 times are not far off the truth....as many magazines have proved. I have had 150 out of the Griff, 180 out of my Cerb and 160 out of the Tamora...all on private roads, of course...
well with my 4ltr hooked up to some new fangled gps logging stuff i was doing easily repeatable 0-60 in 5.5s without thrashing the transmission from the off and dumping the clutch and stringing the best sector times gave 5 so if you werent bothered about clutch gbox and tyres the quoted 4.5 should be possible.
As for top end i kept running out of road at just over 150...
and they will do quite a bit over 217kph (135mph) with the roof down, as i was braking hard when i went through the french speed trap....DOH

I've done 150mph (according to speedo) on a track in my 4 litre chimaera and that was at about 5000rpm (according to rev counter) so extrapolate...
Also while testing my AP-22 meter in the one dry day last week I managed to do a 0-60 of 5.8s BUT that was with a dodgy start (lifted clutch a bit too quickly by mistake and got slightly bogged down ), so a sub-5s 0-60 does seem possible. (If anyone who's good at race starts with their TVR wants to have a go gimme a shout and we could arrange something...)

0-60 times are indeed tricky . In the dry, I can accelerate to 40 in no time before changing, which can be tricky to do quickly . But, at 40, when I look in the rear view mirror, all the other cars seem to be motionless!! I say in the dry because I tried it Sunday and all I got was massive wheelspin, coupled with massive judder and a stern look from my other half .
I thought the limiter kicked in earlier for first, unless my rev counter or speedo are out by a long way!!, but I have tried this several times now, and always the same results!

Well said Tim - and thanks for the R-100 Magnecors and new dizzy cap over Xmas - all now fitted - all you can see in the engine bay is 10 mil plug wires!! And it idles smoother too. Triffic - thanks Back on topic, not sure it'll improve my 0-60 tho!! cheers, Tant.
Tim,
Re Chimaera stability:
I have heard the same claim from German dealers and owners who have the chance to drive for extended periods at 130mph+.
When my 5.2 engine from Ray was running well (i.e. the full 380bhp)in the Griff I did get 7000rpm in 5th gear(in Belgium)- this is about 190mph. As the rev limiter was set at 7400rpm I am sure if I had not bottled out the car could have achieved 200mph However above 140mph the car never did feel stable and just lifting off the throttle above this speed was worrying because of the instability caused by the deceleration. The Chim 5 litre I drove from German dealer in Hagen felt much more stable at 140mph but obviously lacked the grunt of the 5.2.
By the way Tim I sometimes wish I still had the 5.2 when I see your superb multiple throttle body plenums etc.

I've written a piece for the letters page of Sprint about Cerbera power outputs, make interesting reading in light of the other two letter recently published. I've also done 0-100-0 in 14 seconds in an early 4.2 cerbie at elvington so it seems cerbie performance isn't in doubt. Don't know about you chim / griff peeps though!!

The Chimaera has more "overhang" at the rear end, and possibly a better front end for stability ? this is based on feed back from you guys in Europe, and not relevant to UK, unless they decide to double the speed limit..
The Chimaera will also "get of the line" better with the softer suspension, allegedly ! although i may be put straight by the sprinting brigade.
BTW 0-60 doesn't really demonstrate the engines power, as tests show that all engine sizes produce a similar figure 30-70 or 0-100 is a better bench test.

Of interest, here is a link to a table showing 0-100 & 1/4 mile times from various sources e.g. factory data, magazine test results and from the TVRCC Sprint on the Blackpool Promenade a few years ago. Performance figures Rich...

Indeed, but slower than the Griff's
