I always knew my love affair with TVR would be short lived - my own fault really for spending the house deposit on her. So it's difficult for me to think about selling my Cerbera, but I've been ringing round and most dealers are just not interested in buying in stock at the moment so imagine my surprise when I was offered 20k for it over the phone. Given private sales are in the 22-23k(?) region for my type of car do you think this is a fair offer or should I hold out a run her for a while longer?

Not knowing what to do

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush or so the saying goes, especially at this time of year.

Distressed sales always end up losing you far too much money. If you are going to run it a while longer it will have to be quite a few months longer, before prices soften even more and then harden up again in the spring/summer.

Just my 2p.

Have you looked on Autotrader? there's 103 Cerberas for sale there. I suspect that backs up what peoplespal says - and also should enable you to judge whether what you've been offered is reasonable.

Sorry you're losing the car - come back soon!

Hear hear -- I know how it feels.

But an offer within a couple of k of the asking is probably a good one (though check around first).

Sounds like a fab offer to me. I would say that is prob at least 3 or 4 k than most dealers will offer. If you wanna sell then go for it BUT you could post an ad ie if you give me £22K before this weekend for it then its yours. But buyers might be looking to pay nearer 20k private anyhow.

Also - some car dealers make you an offer, you turn up and then they wriggle a little and hey presto the offer is suddenly less ie 'can you hear that noise' etc..

Thanks for the replies chaps, got the old abacus out last night and I might, just might be able to keep her after all - which has made me feel a whole lot better.

Shame it's still snowing here (about 2" now) otherwise I would have gone for a spin to forget all about it.

Hi Paul, gutted when I first read the thread elated by the end.
Hang on to it if you can, it's a lovely car. I remember it well @ Brighton 29th 2002.
Regards,
Big Al.

Sorry to hear you're selling your pride and joy! Lovely looking car btw, did u buy it from Fernhurst originally? (I had a look at one quite a few months ago from there perhaps it was the same car).

Will u come back to the "fold" of us cerbera owners once you've moved house?

Regards

Chris

sorry to hear you are selling your car, but if every classified car advertiser used gassing to run a similar thread to canvass interest then we would be overrun with this type of thread.
