Seat Belt Sherriffs
Discussion
This appear in today's "Express" - page 15 reported by Mark Blacklock.
It seem that Cleveland Police has sent a letter to the county;s 10 year olds - "deputising" them by asking them to grass up mama und papa for speeding, not wearing seatbelt, using handy .. in car ..
They think pester power will "shame parents into obeying speed limits"
Listen 'ere .. our kittens purr "Faster Mama" und pull funniest faces at the talivans - we bring up the right way
Inspector Robinson of Cleveland polices says:
"Who better than the children themselves to ensure parents und everyione on car faqstehn belts und obey the law"
I gather he has not come across the likes of Vicky Pollard, Leanne Black (the real life version????) etc who would most certainly "not be bovvered"
In his letter he tell children "he need Seatbelt Sheriffs to keep an eye on things und tell him what ist going on in the car"
Ja - und all it need ist tantrumming child to get "show his parents" who refuse the latest expensive doo-dah to "spite him"
However, I am sure our kittens would have made paper darts of the letter und made point of saying how fast they can design them to go
They did this apparently over some other pee-cee nonsense..
Chips off the old blocks .

Chips off the old blocks . T'was on the local news earlier, my old primary schoool no less.
Both of my nephews (both 9 yr olds) have been informed that if they wish to be some sort of back-seat Wyatt Earp in my car, then they'll be left at the next available lay-by
I'm quite capable of putting on my seat belt and pulling over to make/take calls without being told to do so by a child.

Behave. Whats wrong with this scheme? How many times do I drive behind some family with 3 kids running back and forth around the rear seat, and rolling around on the parcel shelf?
If it saves lives, then good
Just what i thought. It's no harm done. A bit patronising maybe but no more than that. 1984? Get real!Ok, so it's not quite 1984 as the children don't actually turn their parents in to the authorities, but the propaganda and indoctrination are there. The green movement are doing the same. Primary school children come home worried to death about GW and rising sea levels. Children are a soft target and easily influenced without being able to see the bigger picture for themselves. I'm not suggesting wearing seat belts is a bad idea but targeting children in this way is a despicable abuse of power.

Yes I'm afraid so and it's only going to get worse IMO.

I must admit, i understand where you're coming from there. I was appaled watching the Rice visit recently, when she visited that school. The 'hip' teachers had obviously decided to print up some placards etc for the kids to wave around. There's nothing worse than the indoctrination of children by those who should know better.

It's a cliché but this is straight out of 1984.
AND out of the reality of the Nazi state (the Blockwart) and the DDR (Stasi)....where children were trained in Kindergarten to tell on their parents if they appeard not to conform to the party line (the Young Pioneers were the best/worst at this!)

Indoctrination is the tool of choice, always has been. Why do you think the whole lentilist and political correct movement infest our schools and universities?
Planting your message in the minds of the next generation is a far easier way of getting your way than trying to convince mature minds which are able to take a reasoned approach.
The important thing to do as a parent is to balance any propaganda they're getting from school with reasoned thinking. Religion is a prime example, speed is another.
Although on the speeding front, you try and find me a 10 year old boy who's not excited by speed. Whatever rubbish they try and fill their brains with, kids will always whoop at the sight of a Ferarri, 911 or Fireblade.

Only because the evidence wouldn't be sufficient to gain a conviction. If there was a chance it could then they'd be extolling it.
Still, targetting kids with respect to telling parents to buckle up etc is pretty daft.
Surely it should be the other bloody way around from what I've seen. Some parents let their kids go loose in the back of a car!
Afterall, who are the adults here? Kids shouldn't be the focus of things they don't yet understand. Their minds are sponges, and setting them up for indoctrination of potential mis-truths or mis-guided ritcheousness is pretty bad form for the police imho.
Parents should be taking this responsibility of teaching the children right from wrong, not the police ffs. OK, early days, the seatbelts is fair enough arguement, but where will it end? How long will it be until our kids are going back to school and telling teacher what naughty things we have been doing that they have been told were "bad" at school.
One of my uncles sons already lied about his dad beating him and his mum up to a teacher at school, and had weeks of visits and trouble with police and social services etc, all because his dad took away his Playstation 2 for being naughty. Kids these days can be damn warped, and I'd prefer a warped kid on my side, than on the side of some NIMBY Greeny ar5ehole teachers and their narrow minded views!
Not saying it's bad now, but you have to be careful what you teach children outside of normal curriculum topics! Ie, laws, morality etc are the realm of parental teaching and choice, not societies imho!
