Play in 944 Front Suspension

Whilst doing a quick check round the car I noticed some play on the left front wheel of my 86 Lux.
It seems to rock in and out at the top(looking from the side of the car). I've not noticed any excess noise when driving.
Does this sound like a suspension strut problem and if so am I looking a ££ or £££££££?
Haven't had a chance to look at it yet but thought I'd try and get some background on it first.

It might be play in the wheel bearing, I would check and adjust that first. After that you should check the various suspension joints. Might be worth getting it diagnosed at a local garage.

This could be the top strut mounting, My independent tightened both sides for me. (my drivers side needed retorqued).
