I have just purchased my first Porsche a 2004 Boxster s Anniversary

266 Bhp is not much for a 3.2 engine.

Obviously there are tuning companys out there. Who has experience of these, good or bad and how much extra BHP do you get for what sort of money

You may get 10-15bhp from a re-map, and 5-10 more if you upgrade the exhaust/cats
at the same time.

Other than that, there aren't too many gains to be had from a N/A engines, without spending
serious money.

Ibroker, seems a strange post, which kinda begs the question, why did you buy it ?
Surely if you wanted 300+ HP you should've looked at a 996 ?

P.S. Please don't take the above the wrong way, it just seems strange you're looking at ways to upgrade already.
Have you taken it for a severe thrashing to see just how quick it really is ?

I think its a fantastic looking car and it had to be a convertible, plus I think the 996 cab is not as nice.

Dont get me wrong the last thing I was looking to do was pick up the car and turn it into some type of max power motor. Its just that porsche being a popular marque will have by nature, access to many companies offering to tune the engines. Everything at a cost and I just wondered
what the options and costs were by the boards experience.

Its looks like not many

I've always thought it a shame that Porsche insist on hobbling the Boxster so that it doesn't go faster than the 911. Would be a fantastic car with a 3.6ltr, and it would easily fit.

Your reasoning is sound

It certainly does, RUF 3400S or 3600S anyone.

Wouldn't be a very clever marketing strategy though would it.... "Please spend £6x,000 on our 911 Carrera Cab.. oh BTW, its about £25k more than our faster 400hp Boxster"

From what I've seen on this board, there's plenty of 911 owners who wouldn't even look at a Boxster, whilst there's probably plenty putting orders down for the Z4M over the Boxster S because of the extra horses.

There's already a Caymen with 997 3.8S engine ...

I understand that Porsche are relying on third party tuners to satisfy this sector of the market, because with LSD it is easily capable of humbling a 997S. I'd love to see one fettled with a GT3 lump etc.

But, what a range of cars ...

Boxster S, Caymen, 997S, 997GT3, 997 Turbo, --- just not sure about the Cayenne.

Anyone had experience of how modified cars are viewed by OPCs, particularly when it comes to part exchanging. I'd love to give my Boxster S a few more BHP but am concerned about the inevitable `I'm afraid your car's not standard spec anymore so that'll be £xxxK less.' type comment. I'm not talking about radical mods - just perhaps a techart ecu and sports air filter-type arrangement.

At the risk of being rude. It might be better to spend a few hundred quid on some training & a couple of track days. Once you have safely(ish) found how to use ALL of the performance, then think about upgrades.

Just my £0.02

they will frown at it so the answer is obvious - swap filters and re-program ECU back to std (most chip companies just flash their remap onto your ECU and hide it from Porsche diagnostic equipment, they don't remove and refit a new chip)

You're assuming I haven't already been on any track days. I wouldn't claim to be an expert, but I've done a few plus a `Ride Drive' course in my old TVR driving days. No, maybe it goes back to being used to having all that grunt but there is something exciting about having an abundance of power you can't quite tame - and you can appreciate it every time you touch the throttle. I much prefer the Boxster's handling and overall quality though - so happy to compromise to some extent.

Andy,

On a different issue, i think ive got my hands on your T350.

I would welcome any information you have on it, issues you had with it good and bad.

JB had it stood for 4 months during which the ECU battery failed , but has had it serviced and the ECU sorted, and its run fine since. Unfortunately, the mileage zerod itself during the process but has been authenticated by TVR following service and ECU battery repair.

Im made up with the car, the only problem being the weather which has restricted its outings, but give me chance to get it tip top underneath.

Please drop us an e-mail.

Cheers

Paul.
