Golf drivers again!!!!!

First of all: apologies to any Golf-driving PHers - I know you wouldn't be this cretinous. But I am about to have a major rant!! 
Silly Golf-driving bint drove into the rear of my Rover this evening - minor bumper damage. I hope - bit dark to tell at the moment. The Rover was in the left-hand lane at a merge point - clearly marked on the road, right merges into left. The Rover was in front of Golf Lady in the right-hand lane, she accelerated to try to get round and didn't have time to do so, then she misjudged her merge and oops! I now have an unintentional go-faster stripe all down the side of my rear bumper.
Well okay - accidents happen, even though it's a pain in the neck to sort out. Except that when the driver (not me!) got out to exchange details, she locked the doors and refused to open the window. Okay, woman travelling on her own and all that - but why not at least open the window a fraction and pass out a business card, or scribble the details on a piece of paper and pass them out? There were plenty of other cars around and the accident happened outside a police station, so opening the window a fraction wouldn't have hurt, surely?
Well, the upshot of all this is that I've just spent a jolly hour and a bit down at the police station proving the Rover's legit status (squeaky clean, of course!) and reporting the accident.
But a question - in this kind of accident, do you have to give your details at the scene, or can you report to your nearest police station within 24 hours? Not sure on this. The officer on the desk reckons it's a Failing To Stop but couldn't give me any more details other than the NIP will be in the post tomorrow.
Either way, I'm a tad annoyed, as you can probably tell. I mean, if she can't take the consequences when she has a coming-together on the roads, why is she driving in the first place??? Accidents happen FGS! I'm just glad it was my Rover she ran into and not a kid on the pedestrian crossing a few feet further on - or my Griff!!
Oh well, we'll see on Monday - got to call the police then and get some details for my insurers. If she wasn't insured, I'll still report the accident to my insurers now that the police are involved. Probably won't claim on my own policy, though - it's not worth the paperwork it'll cause unless the bumper needs replacing.
The silly thing is, the damage to the car won't bother me unless it turns out to be very expensive. The problem I have is in working out why the daft woman refused to exchange details?? A simple case of refusing to accept responsibility for her actions, I suspect.
Righto, I feel better now. Worse things happen at sea and all that. Hope she does get points and a fine though - oh, and that she has a really lousy evening worrying about what she's done!!

If the plonker had hit me, it wudnt have bothered me in the slightest. (Custom Tow-Bar mount made from a HUGE chunk of steel
and it sticks out a long way. Graham.J can probs vouch for its effectiveness as a tailgaiting deterrant)

Riiiight shed thought a huge crumple in the wing made from an offroad encounter with a tree (not me driving I hasten to add) was made by her. On closer inspection shed scuffed my front bumper a little and lent me some paint. Girl bends over to pick up somthing from under my car.
"This has fallen off your car"
"No its made of plastic can't be mine! Looks like a rub strip, must be yours"
Turn round and look at her car and My bumpers peeled the side like a tin can. Hehe LMAO!!!!!

A complete lack of responsibility and no respect for fellow road users. It's so frustrating! The worst part is they usually don't even know they've done anything wrong!! (Fog lights anyone?)
At least when us normal people make a mistake, we apologise and learn from it! We should all have laser guided missiles on the fromt of out cars for just such an event (sorry, watching James Bond..)

Not wishing to drag this into yet another speeding thread - but I'm definitely with you SGirl. I hope that she gets points just to show that you can't drive like a numptie and get away with it. Make a good use of all of those city centre cameras during the rush hour too - let's make cr@p driving as much as an offence as drink driving etc.....

. My request for an S3 was turned down by my boss on the basis of:- 1) Availability and I needed a car pretty quick and,
2) Just written off my MR2 in a 100mph impact speed spectacular - Police said it was no fault though, which was good.
Had 18 months of penenance now
, but S2000 should be here in less than 5 months agggh!!! don't get me started on accidents!
i used to own a mint condition mk 1 cavalier, i still own it but it keeps getting driven into so its no longer mint!
basically one morning a neighbour wakes me up at 8:45am, i work nights so was a little pissed, she said she had "scratched my car" and was very sorry, so i throw some clothes on and walk down the road to see the scratch, as i approach my car i sense something is wrong when i notice the wheels squashed up against the kerb as i did not park it like that.
so i follow her to the nearside front wing to see it has been pushed in almost a foot so it looks like i have crazy spacers on my wheels, so i'm like: "granted, you have scratched my car, but its the big f
k off dent i'm more worried about". after taking the car to the garage i find out she had also managed to shake the gearbox loose as well!!!
the worse part of the story is she did this driving her kid to school, she reversed out her drive without looking straight into my car, drove her child to school (a 2 minute walk) then drove back and got me up, all by 8:45 and the school doesn't start until 9am!!!
luckly she did pay for all damage to be fixed but not for the insurance cover of me using my mums car for 3 weeks(£63), i was so exsaporated with her i didn't even try getting that out of her!!!
she admitted responsibility but her husband came up later all 'nah not our fault, why the hell do you even have a car? let alone dare park it near our house' my brother almost lamped him one.
as two final notes, has anyone here every tried finding a wing for a mk 1 cavalier? then getting it sprayed in colorado beige?
and guess what... less than 1 week after its fixed some shite on a pushbike rode into my new wing denting it and breaking off the wingmirror and did not own up!

i think you are supposed to give details if you are at all able but she could just claim that she felt uncomfortable or that your driver looked angry or something.
i guess you could have suggested that she was driving dangerously.......
probably not worth the grief though.
edited to add that this is such a shame - i always had a bit of a soft spot for golfs.
what can i tell you, they've been around most of my motoring life, and my first love was a polo.....

Shame she has 24 hours to report it - I was hoping the NIP would persuade her not to do it again! I can see her point I suppose, what with it being dark and all, but whatever happened to facing up to your responsibilities? You hit another car (whether it's your fault or not), you get out and discuss details with the other driver. If you think the other driver is going to do you a mischief, you stay in the car, open the window a fraction and pass your details out. If you have a problem with doing even that, you don't drive at night. Simple.
What if she'd hit a pedestrian on the crossing - would she have left him/her there to bleed to death because she was afraid she'd get thumped by a witness?? I truly hope not...
The really stupid thing is that if she'd just passed on her details that would've been the end of the matter. I checked out the damage this morning and it's not worth getting upset about. Sure, it'll mean a trip to the bodyshop for a bit of sorting, but it's no big deal. It could all have been much worse.
The irony is that I'm still considering swapping the Rover for something a bit less Rovery, and a Golf was up there on the list. Not any more... Maybe a nice BMW or something?!
