with 18-55mm kits, any good?

Thinking of getting one this weekend. Would love to get D70s but a bit pricey and I think D50 would do the job.

lovely thing. Very pleased with mine, some of the shots actually make me look like I know what I'm doing!

Found 350D too small for my hand and doesn't feel right like Nikon do.

Great picture there, do you find it easy to use?

Yeah, not too bad at all.

Read the instruction manual (and understand it) and just get snapping. Memory is cheap, so get 1 or 2 good sized cards and trake loads of pictures, experimenting and changing stuff and see where it gets you. Those pics are the best (?) ones from about 70 I took last Sunday morning.

Also found this book good reading;

If your seriously looking for one, I'm thinking of ordering one from this place:

www.clselectronicstore.co.uk/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=922

I don't think the D50 is actually that much lower spec than the D70s if at all in most areas.

I'm no expert on the D50, but from what I've read it's not that much underspec than the D70. What they've done is made it cheaper by using cheaper materials to build it with, so I guess it wont be as robust as the D70. They also made a huge saving by using a cheaper lens than the one bundled with the D70 - which is not as good. Pictures I've seen people taking with them are great as well.

It might be worth while hunting for a D50 body only deal, and then piucking up a standard D70 lens from eBay, I suspect lots of D70 owners don't use it (eventhough it is a good standard everyday lens)

Or pay a bit more and get the kit with the 18-70 lens like I did. It's just come down £50 in Jessops as well.

Or buy the camera from the place in my other post with the 18-55mm lens and then with extra £150 buy a lens you want and have two for the same price of the 18-70 lens at Jessops?

Unless you are as impatient to get the camera as I was

That first link is the best price I've seen so far, second to that, Amazon are doing them for £399

With regards to selling old stuff, I visited our local Jessops stores at the weekend, they dont do 2nd hand anymore, well the local ones dont anyway.

I bought one the other day because of a need for a decent digital camera and I couldn't face spending £350 on a snappy one. Works great, ok it's not a shigh spec as the D70 or the EOS 350 but it is cheaper. So all those who say D70 EOS 350 is better blah, blah, blah yes they are, but they are more expensive. But the above comments about the lens is correct. I used my Cousins 18-70 the other day and found it a lot more versatile than the 18-55 one that is bundled with the D50 as standard. At any rate it is a good camera for the money and really it is the person behind the camera than makes more of a difference.
