Hi Everyone,

I was just wonderring what everyones take is on the filtering lanes as you come into roadworks. By that I mean the point where three lanes become two (and/or two become one). These points are usually preceeded by almost a mile of warnings that the lane is going to close. I frequently see the inside lane(s) completely clogged way beyond the markers but the outside lane comletely empty. The result of this is invariably that somebody will fly down at 100mph and push in with 10 meters to go. While I don't agree with this behaviour I do think there is a happy medium, I will normally crawl past the other cars (20mph approx) until I am about 400m from the filter point and then look for a gap in the traffic (which there always is due to cars not all moving at the same time). Am I impolite for doing this or am I just making the best use of the road available?

Furthermore I have in the past moved out into the outside lane to travel at the same speed as the inner lanes. This is a good technique to ensure fairness but it can also rile some drivers causing beeps/flashes and general road rage. I also wonder at the legality of this practice...

Give me your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks,

John (Afro)
