The oil seems to be getting past the threads rather than through the sender itself. I am going to try alittle ptfe tape on the threads.
Question is, if I unscrew it how much oil will run out? I'm worried about draining the pump & having to strip it down to prime it again?

You dont say if its a serp or pre serp engine. Certainly on the serpentine engines pump priming isnt a concern, but having said that on the earlier engines there shouldnt be a problem either , so long as the gears are good and oily it will prime without probs, just as it would after a filter change. primimg is only really a concern on the bear pump engines if the pump has been stripped and is dry. Very little oil should come out. PTFE tape may be worth a try but in most cases the leak is through the mechanism itself and unless its quite bad its probably not significant as they all seem to leak sooner or later to some extent.
