Certainly they are not all bad and at the right price they can be a bargain but be very aware of the engines reputation.

i will second this.
i am the author of the afforementioned thread, and, though i dont yet have the car back (hopefully paul is delivering it to me at santa pod)
for the total price of around £22k i have a 400bhp speed six with a 2 year engine warranty (from austec)
i only had 48 hours of drive time pre disaster (at which time paul reckons i wasnt creating more than 250bhp) and i still dont regret the purchase!
I think reading these forums every day, people take for granted the 8 year old boy effect these cars have on not only the drivers but also the innocent people whose ear drums you damage driving past!
Finally, the other thing youll notice driving a cerb is that its not the ladies who turn and look, its the blokes looking with that glint of admiration/ jealousy/ how the hell did he persuade the missus to get one of those type looks, while youre trying to look cool and not grin like a cheshire cat!
I love that feeling
who cares what engine.
buy one you like the colour of, get some tesco 99ron fuel in it, and start to enjoy.
There was a Speed 6 Cerbera at a track at Bedford with me last year, went really well and sounded good too.
If you can get one with a sorted engine, or at a price that allows you to 'self insure' against any problems, it should be a good choice.
I didn't consider one when I got mine, as they were out of my price range. And although I love the v8, its dead as far as TVR are concerned, so the sp6 is the only one that will continue to be developed by the factory.
Try all three variants to see what you think.

I have a 4.2 V8 cerb. My neighbour has a well sorted 4.0 Tuscan and in flip flop blue and purple its georgeous. Frankly there is very little difference in the performance-my cerb is fractionally quicker but it really is such a small difference that in normal driving its irrelevant. The engine all comes down to personal choice. My choice is a v8 but yours may be different.
I've had a speed 6 for over a year and covered 4k of great summer and Autumn 2005 miles. Apart from drinking lots of oil (no leaks) its been great. This year its broken a power steering belt and needs the aircon repumped. Not bad really.
The interesting bit, it goes like stink nothing can touch it, handles well (grounds out a bit at the rear). No problem
