I have been shopping around to find a premium quality, breatheable softish car cover. I don't want a namby pamby, body massageing velvet jobby, just something that holds back the elements and actually fits the car.I have approached two big companies last week, and I got these responses:
"Dear Mr. Jenkins,
Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately we don't have a pattern for your car, and we wish to be excused from quoting."
Regards
xxxxxxxxx of Europe

(oh thanks for the excellent servicethen : it doesn't say that on your advert..wish they would let me do their front webpage, it would say something like,"We make Custom Covers for any vehicle - except Ultima's!)

I wrote to the second company...
To whom it may concern:
Please could you furnish me with a quotation for a tailor-made, fitted outdoor cover for the following vehicle:
Ultima GTR(with rear spoiler).Year of manufacture: 2000
Regards, Simon Jenkins...and they replied...
"We have pleasure in quoting for a tailored waterproof breathable car cover for the above vehicle @ £225.00&vat.Please confirm if sport or spyder model
NB: Our patterns have been obtain from UltimaSports in 1996 please confirm if your vehicle is same model (doh..)
regards xxxxxx

Doh again! So the long and short is: who has a cover for the GTR, with spoiler,(!)and are you pleased with it,does it fit,is it snow-proof(!)and which company did you use?

I bought mine from the factory......Ted and Company that is.....and it looks to be of top quality. I can't comment on the fit as I'm just getting started on the build. It was available in two colors....Blue and Black..I have a picture I can email you if you like. Good Luck.

Cheers brad; I would appreciate a pic. You can email me on strjenkins@blueyonder.co.uk.

Obviously I won't be keeping the car outside when we have weather like recently, ie snow etc, but it also stops kids sticky fingerprints

UltimaSimon. I have a Sports with an integral, full width rear wing, (not the pylon mounted variety). A couple of years ago, I was looking for a lightweight cover that was soft, waterproof and breathable. I found one at Halfords. I can't remember the name of the actual manufacturer but it's made from a soft, polyethylene type material called "Tyvek" which is a du-Pont product. The cover was available in 4 sizes and the medium size was a perfect fit for my car. It cost around £60. It definitely wouldn't fit the pylon winged Sports but it could fit the GTR as the rear wing is probably not much higher than the wing on my car. I bought the cover from Halfords on the understanding that if it didn't fit, I could return it and get my money back and they were quite happy to agree to this.

The cover was well and truly christened at Le Mans in 2001 (the year of the deluge) and it kept my car perfectly dry. It packs into its own small carrying bag (about a foot diameter by about 18 inches long) and I drove with it secured to the front of the passenger seat by a couple of bungee cords. How it would stand up to hard, everyday use, I don't know but as a portable cover for occasional use, it seems fine.
