I have been planning my windscreen wiper movement latelly and I really fancy a single wiper.... however the section on the wipers in my SVA manual is strangelly missing.

Anyone have some details or know the rules? Basically I want to check exactly what I have to conform to before I finalise the wipers and thus the front body.

Outer edge of the index finger of my left glove. Movement : Right to Left completely across my helmet visor. Works wonders . . . and the faster you're going the better it works

Probably not the most helpful response you'll get

That'll work fine on my Indy as well.... but my GTT is another matter.

Why not ring your local SVA station and ask the inspector there? Or SVA screenless and worry about it once you've got the plates on.

All I have, believe its still current as I got it off the D.T. site only a few weeks back.

1. The vehicle shall be fitted with one or more wipers which when switched on, operate automatically to clear the windscreen of water so that the driver has an adequate view of the road ahead, both directly in front of the vehicle and in front of both sides of the vehicle, in wet weather.
2. The wiper or wipers shall have at least one operating frequency at which it or they shall operate continuously at no less than 45 cycles per minute.
3. The wiper blade or blades shall return automatically to a position of rest which shall be at or beyond the outer edge of the area swept by the wiper and shall be capable of being displaced from this position on the windscreen to allow for windscreen cleaning.
4. The vehicle shall be fitted with a windscreen washer system capable of cleaning, in
conjunction with the wiper or wipers, the area of windscreen swept by the wiper or wipers.
5. When this system is actuated with the nozzles plugged, it shall be capable of withstanding the pressures produced.
6. The capacity of the liquid reservoir for this system shall not be less than 1 litre.

This item shall not apply to a goods vehicle.
This item shall not apply to vehicles not equipped with a windscreen through which the driver must look to obtain an adequate view of the road ahead, both directly in front of the vehicle and in front of both sides of the vehicle, from all normal seating positions.

You could always just fit an aeroscreen for the SVA, therefore no need to comply with the regulations for a wiper & water bottle etc.

Post SVA you could fit the full screen, although you would of course have to ensure that the aeroscreen was temporarily refitted for any subsequent MOT........
